I think there are a lot of companies that would be very unhappy if an employee publicly attacked them - especially if it made the national news.

This is an opportunity for leadership within the team. That role, typically, falls to the quarterback. Let players get their frustrations off their chest and try to get the focus back on the team and the upcoming season. Seems fragmented and individualized. This is still Smith's team and he should proceed accordingly.
