Ripley is the best Netflix series since Queen's Gambit.

I don't know that I'm someone who has ever focused on cinematography, but this is absolutely brilliant and beautiful with some great acting. Exceptional.

Amazing show.

So I feel like a lot of people were really disappointed by Monarch and I just have to ask why?

I get the pacing complaint in the first episode and then there was one in the middle that was god-awful (4 or 5) but on balance I thought it was really good. Told an interesting story and navigated the time jumps very nicely.

I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I binged that one a couple weeks ago. It was a captivating series.

Resident Alien is pretty damn funny. Really dry.

Alan Tudyk is just a funny dude.

It's on my list.

Andrew Scott is always a good watch.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I have.

Ultimately I think it's pretty simple - if you like Tudyk, you're gonna like this show. If you don't, you won't. Because it pretty much is just 40 minutes of him being Alan Tudyk.

If he's not your thing, probably no reason to circle back. But if you generally find him funny then you'll probably like the show.

Did a search and nothing came up for the series I have been riveted to lately. American Rust on Prime has it all, truly enjoyable show.

To quote Fax, sorry if it is a repost.

I watched that a few years ago when it was first on Showtime. Really enjoyed it. I like anything with Jeff Daniels and think Maura Tierney is pretty great too.

Yeah, I agree on both of them.

Just started season 2 and there is some serious gear shifting required, but still a very enjoyable watch.

Holy shit, I was hooked pretty quick, but I did not expect the second season to turn out as good as it did. It was a great way to end the show if that's the direction it takes, but I've read that the show runner has the 3rd season mapped out. He's just waiting for Max (those cock suckers are so shitty they'll cancel anything) to renew for season 3.

Like Halo the game? Cuz I haven't seen anything but that it's bad. Could be just from the Halo fan boys though. It seems to have good reviews now that I look at it.

Zebedee DuBois 04-19-2024 01:32 PM

Sugar on AppleTV+

Colin Farrel plays a "detective type" role, searching for the grand daughter of a LA Film producer. It has that LA detective noir feel that runs through Spade/Marlow/Bosch.

I've been enjoying it.

Without combing through the thread, is this finally maybe the thread where Shogun is being discussed?

There is a thread on it halfway down the Media Center. I'm a bit behind so I've stayed out of it, but I can't wait to read the thoughts on it.

I didn’t even know there was a season 2 until I read your post. Looked up some of the reviews and considered the first season. Very, very meh. Really no reason for a sequel.

Yeah, it is isn't even in the same neighborhood as season one. But I am going to finish it out since I am on episode 9

I think Sugar is very well crafted. It has that melancholy LA Detective noir down to a tee. It is a pleasure to watch something that is so well done. The curve ball in the last scene of the finale was quite the surprise, though.

Watched I think 3 episodes of Franklin last night. It's a hard watch an old feeble Douglas and too much weird French folk. I always liked American Revolution movies but this so far is dull and boring.

EP5 was some of the most agonizing TV I've watched, in the best way possible of course

This show delivers

I know it’s old but I see Netflix recently added Black Sails. I watched it years ago when it came out but have since forgotten most of it. It is a good show though so I’m happy to be rewatching it.

I’m a fan. I’ve watched it though probably 5 or 6 times. It used to be whenever stars would have something worth watching I’d throw it on while I had it.

It’s not flawless but there are some goddamned compelling moments in there.

Thing that gets me is Michael Bay is an EP on it and there isn’t a ton of transformers over the top shit in there.

It’s damn impressive.

I saw a trailer for Poker Face on Peacock and thought hey, that looks like it might be good.
Just watched the first episode and it was really good. I hope the rest of the series continues to be this good.

I don't know if this Kristen Wiig show on Apple is any good but holy balls is Cindy Crawford's daughter a smokeshow.

It's a unique show. Gets a little bit repetitive but I definitely enjoyed it. Some episodes better than others but the premise is fun and writing is good.

I've been watching mostly as a concession for all the NBA playoffs my wife is sitting through and its not bad. Its time pieced perfectly with wardrobe and set. Like really well done

Some of the sayings are too modern for that time but its definitely not the worst thing I've watched in the name of happy life

I have to admit, Black Sails is one of the few series that gets better as the seasons progress. Well into season 3 and it is very entertaining.

Glad you like it! One of my favorite aspects is that lots of things happen and situations change, but it always makes sense in the context of the show and characters. I can’t think of anything so far (almost done with season 3) where I thought to myself something like “well that was too convenient or made no sense and took me out of it.”

Coming back to this because I watched the 3rd (I think it was 3rd?) episode the other day and man, they just couldn't stay away from their...uhhhh...I want to call it woke but I'm not sure that's the correct description. Basically, you could very much tell the writers politics/cultural leanings with the way they presented their idea of lower class or country folks.

I am so tired of this kind of nonsense. I was ready to just stop watching right there. That kind of thing just turns me off. I may give it another go at some point but, if they start that crap again, I'm done.

Sugar on Apple TV+ took a weird unsatisfying turn to wind up the series. It had an interesting vibe going until they went in another direction. They left room for additional seasons, but I'm not sure they can restore the mood.
