very little. We have been spared so far this season.

Bowser 01-20-2024 11:47 AM

It's supposed to be in the high 30's/low 40's next week in KC with rain forecasted basically all week. Until the snow melts, the drains might be overflowing which will be fun on the roads. Especially if it all re-freezes overnight.

displacedinMN 01-24-2024 02:44 PM

Windy changed the map set up in the OP. In some ways it is easier.
But you cannot add the isobars to the radar map. it looks like the others have it automatically.

Bowser 01-27-2024 05:20 PM

I don't know about anyone else, but I think I've had about enough dense fog with temps right on the cusp of turning it all into freezing fog to last me for a long, long time.

Supposedly it's going to get up to around 60 in KC next week. I may break out the shorts if that happens, lol.

Yeah, we even had some of that out here in the desert.

You joke about the shorts and shit. After the snow we had like 10 days or something where it didn't get above like 4 and there was consistent wind. It was ****ING COLD.

Anyway, I went to an equipment auction that had some stuff I wanted to bid on. Anyway, it was like a high of 35 with not much wind, everything covered in snow. I brought all my shit. Boots, coveralls, Heavy parka, facemask, double gloves all of it. Barely above freezing with snow on the ground? That's cold, man. Nah, hoodie and a beanie was enough. I left the rest of the shit in my pickup. I was shocked.

Ditto. There is a line in Westen Minn of sun and clouds, it is just not moving.

We had the Winter Open at the golf course today. Six holes, tennis balls, 6 foot circles as holes.
Other years there has been snow on the ground and fairways were wide with "rails" This year, WET! Open grass, a few ponds, very little snow and 40 degrees. Cloudy.

The tennis balls collected water and squished when you hit them. Collected a lot of water when they rolled.

We had 50-75 people and expected more this afternoon.

Could be almost 50 Thursday.

I heard the spit jet stream will join together later this month. So that would bring more cold south. Hey, for me the second week of Feb is usually the coldest week of the year.

Just hoping we still go shy on the snow. I can handle the cold. People are even bigger idiots in the snow.

Swatted 4 mosquitos this evening while out disc golfing. In February, in shorts and tshirt. Currently fighting a bunch of oak mite bites on my head and neck from being outside most of last weekend. It hasn't been cold enough over the last 4-5 years or so to kill them off over the winter. Same with ticks.

and stay off the roads with those who are idiots. Already started this morning for me.

My last period class is going to stink. although the front has already passed me. But the temp change will be crazy.
in the neighborhood of a 70 degree feels like change. 65 yesterday, -10 windchill tomorrow morning.

Graystoke 02-27-2024 08:08 AM

This shit isn't normal but enjoyable as hell.
In Iowa we are seeing highs of 70. Tulips are up way to early, I had to go get wood chips and bury them. Been out on the motorcycle, been out fishing, been disc golfing. Its just not right though. Also we are in a severe drought. Absolutely no frost in the ground and its already been to warm and the wind is drying it out even more.

Fire and ridiculous wind is a ****ing horror show.

In 2012 there was a big fire by Johnson, KS and that crazy bitch was moving 43 MPH. Obviously they had to put it out with tractors and disks and the fastest a tractor will go is 26.

**** that.

Frazod 02-28-2024 01:08 AM

It was 72 earlier today, now it's 42. Supposed to be down around 20 by 8:00.

And then in a few days, back up in the 70s.

As far as I can remember, we've gone the entire month of February with almost no measurable snow fall; got a bit of rain here and there, but it really hasn't been cold enough for anything more than that, except some light flurries that barely stuck the grass and melted immediately. Strange, but I'll take it over a typical one.

Friends of ours traveling back from their trip to PHX stopped in shamrock TX for the night. Said they drove thru 60 mph winds all day. Never been thru anything like it. Smoke and dust, difficult driving conditions.

Went to a steakhouse for dinner and got kicked out as they were
evacuating the town. Ended up going to elk city Oklahoma for the night.

Wildfires in Texas, tornadoes in Chicago, blizzard in Iowa. Mother nature can be a crazy bitch, and it's not even March.

It stormed like hell in the Chicago area, and there were several reports of tornados in the suburbs and the rural area west of the city, but it looks like the damage was relatively minor. High winds and a little hail as well. It was pretty nasty when it went through by us around 7:00. Of course the weather shamans on WGN were trumpeting it like it was the apocalypse, and the wife was glued to that shit until I told her to turn it off. :shake:

Yeah, the whole East side of the panhandle up in flames going into Oklahoma now. The cold front seemed to hold the smoke down at ground lever creating an unsurvivable environment. Lots of towns evacuated.

Apparently, the shit out in west central Kansas is going to turn to snow tonight into tomorrow?

This is the most dysfunctional early spring I can remember in recent years.

Supposedly.

I think there was a tornado on the ground over by Garden City.

Nothing but a lot of wind here in NC Kansas thus far, but it is Kansas, and dysfunctional weather should be part of the motto for the state. I hope the expected two nights of freezing temperatures don’t nip things too badly. We’ve had mostly warm weather for the past six weeks, and a freeze like this is not easy on the greenery.

Tornado did some damage. Several buildings damaged and I saw a picture of a piece of lumber through a windshield of a dealership pickup.

Not great Bob.

5-6 inches of wet snow and plugged up my snowblower. It is supposed to rain, so that will melt is some. South facing driveway wont hurt at all, even with clouds.

2 hour late start.

Have two inches of rain so far and still coming down. Needed this bad.

Got a little bit of snow with 60 MPH wind. :Lin:
