@37:03 - Keep on Chooglin was my dad's jam growing up.
The one he'd put the HiFi on full blast and put out pillows for our heads and pop a bowl of popcorn.

That, and the soundtrack from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

His was from the Live in Europe LP, though.

Mom would listen to the stereo [Loretta, George, Conway, Dolly, etc] all day, but in the evening it was Dad's time for music.

It wasn't until I grew up and saw it on video that I learned that John played both the harmonica and guitar solos, and the bass/drum break was so he could switch.

One of the All Time Greatest Songs and to mention that Peter Frampton is very very very UNDERRATED as a guitar player. This kid could play that Les Paul guitar.

Fair enough, no one loses on that album

That album was just so fast, layered and tight, yet swanky at the same time

Drop Dead Legs walks in on you like the hottest woman in the room

1984 is their pinnacle, they truly went out on top

HOLY COW
, I have never heard Terry Kath play this so hard! Awesome.

So tragic we lost him early, no telling when on the All Time guitarist list he could have been.

I recall Jimmy Hendricks called Kath the greatest guitar player at the time, even better than himself.

I have the Live In Europe 2LP set, 'Chooglin" takes up a whole side, gorgeous.

They were a 3 piece by that point, raw and rocking. The 'Born on the Bayou' and 'Lodi' are great on that set, as well as 'Tombstone Shadow' and 'It Came Out of the Sky'...

Not sure you're using the word you want.

Audiophiles [Dane nothwithstanding] are concerned with sound quality.

Are you trying to reference an album purist? Someone who is concerned with the flow of an album from track to track as envisioned by the artist?

You may be correct. I always use the word "audiophile" as someone who really digs deep into the music for each instrument, the technical sounds and how well it's recorded.

I'm on a major Dave Grohl/Josh Homme kick right now...so a lot of Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures and Eagles of Death Metal.

scho63 09-15-2018 06:18 PM

I'm rediscovering songs that I heard my whole life growing up but never really paid attention to the lyrics or depth of the music and instruments.

A song that really sounds great that I just listened to numerous times is Junior's Farm by Paul McCartney.

Also keep listening to Sweet Talkin Woman by ELO and Lawyers in Love by Jackson Browne and Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello. I LOVED listening to Elvis Costello since a teenager. One of the greatest!

Brand New Idol Society (BiS) - Idol is Dead - CD

The album that started the whole underground idol movement and basically made larger labels realize that alt - idol could make money. BiS' major label debut put in new songs plus hits from their indie days. The album also set the tone for what BiS was: experimental, confrontational, and shocking at the time. Idol is Dead pushed the boundaries of what the Idol system and genre could be.

This, right now

I'll never forget how mind blowing and revolutionary these guys were early on

Decatur, Il 1986... Master of Puppets was blowing up, and I caught the 3rd show of their very first headlining tour there... no seating just crowd the stage, and I was right there in front, mouth agape

After their break, Cliff Burton handed me his extra large red solo cup of beer, having watched me and a buddy smoke some weed

This first effort is just SO blistering and raw, music like this shocked my Crue/Ratt loving ears

I think Tattoo You is excellent as well. I have found those to be underrated components of The Stones catalog. Man, we partied to those albums all the time back in college.

Well music back then let bands alter their sound more. For example, my favorite Black Sabbath song is Spiral Architect which doesn't sound a lot like their most well known songs.

Hell, just look at the genres that Led Zep played with.

I love that song. That album is one of my favorites. A National Acrobat is one my favorite Sabbath songs.

I've been listening to a youtube mix based on an icelandic psychedelic band called Dead Skeletons that I just discovered. Their sound is similar to bands like Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Asteroid #4.

This song is the band's mantra... "He who fears death, cannot enjoy life". The driving force member of the band was diagnosed with HIV back in the 90s before AIDs was routinely controllable and I guess this is a statement/attitude of defiance.
