Great finish in the biathlon

COchief 02-18-2018 10:02 PM

Johnny Weir might be just a tad bit gay it seems. Good lord what an outfit, he's his own pride parade.

This.

Biathalon has become not only my favorite Olympic sport, but one of my favorite sports, period. Cross country is up there as well. That Klaebo kid is unreal. I wish they televised the "regular" season of those sports. I'm gonna have to find a way to follow online or something.

BlackHelicopters 02-19-2018 07:50 AM

NBC has blurred the line between reality and fantasy. Totally boring, just like all Olympic coverage. I like action, not human compassion stories.

They are super over the top with the stories this time around. The coverage of the actual events has been pretty good.

I've found myself missing events as a change the channel when they're not actually showing an event.

I don’t care if some obscure skier from Austria grew up without electricity.

The non-sports stuff is not new...summer or winter...it has always been there...although there might be more of it now.

The good news is.....between NBC, NBCSN, USA, and the NBCSports App, i have seen plenty of sports and turned away from the human interest stories.

Theres more of it because there is so many more hours of coverage now. But yes, its always been there, even when ABC had the Olympics.

I agree, but NBC is "using their platform" (again).

Hopefully Lindsey Vonn tucks those floppy meat curtains in tight before her run tonight. The downhill is all about aerodynamics.

My beloved mom was from Ireland...eastern County Galway, near the border with County Roscommon I asked her once during a Winter Olympics whether she was watching them. She said,

"Naah...The Irish don't really get into that sort of [thing] (ed. note: I sorta think she said a word that rhymes with "hit" in place of thing.). It would be one thing if you could show up on the day of the race and be able to compete, but if something takes too much time to prepare, then that makes it hard to do all of the other things you gotta do. It's better to be able to take care of a lot of things and to spend too much time on any one thing."

It was funny to hear, because in America we tend to celebrate the single-minded pursuit of excellence. She definitely thought differently. Speaking of America, she would always tack on "in the Free World" whenever she said our country's name..."in the United States of America in the Free World", like it was an inside joke or something about all the news people and politicians who were ostentatious about their patriotism.

USA men's hockey with a noble effort but just not good enough. Bad on the PP and every shootout shooter took the same shot, just different sides.

Totally. No shots on the power plays, just a crappy substitute for what should have been.

If the NHL was playing, I would have taken us to win the gold, even against Canada's best.

That shootout was the epitome of USA Hockey, honestly.

Those PP freezes will be replayed in their heads for a long time. For five people to freeze like that is epic.

Wow, just sucks!

GloryDayz 02-21-2018 12:03 AM

With the penalties he took, I'd have put Greenway on the fifth shot. Greenway is a one of the reasons we were gassed for a lot of this game. I get playing hard, but that guy had some epically stupid penalties that drained energy from the team.

We ****ing killed our own ****ing PPs. Mind blowing.

I'd say "get um next time", but there is no next time now.

But credit to their goalie, as a hockey coach and goalie dad, that was a clinic. My son and I replayed all those saves in slow motion and he took notes. Lots for him to practice tomorrow night. Ha...

Just sucks that we have to see the Skiing crap on the "Primetime" NBC where the women's hockey (who is battling for gold, and two great teams) is delegated to an afterthought show.

NBC sucks cawk.

SPchief 02-22-2018 01:00 AM

Brutal penalty in a crucial time. No reason to do that.

They were putting a hell a lot of pressure on that Canadian defense on that OT. Got to give props to the Canadians for hanging tough.

Same to that power play killing for the USA as well.

Great victory! Was getting pretty sick of losing to Canada in gold medal games. I'm not sure if there has ever been a bigger day for USA women's sports. Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall deliver our country's first Olympic gold medal ever in cross country(unreal finish to the race with an epic call by Chad Salmela to boot), the speed skating ladies get our first ever medal in pursuit, hockey gold and silver in bobsled and snowboarding. I haven't even gotten to the super combined yet. Just a phenomenal day for the USA, especially the ladies

The finish of that cross country race was fantastic. Easily the most excited I've been for this Olympics. I stayed up until USA scored their first goal in hockey but had to get up too early this morning to watch the whole thing. Glad to see that they won.

USA!!

redfan 02-22-2018 08:03 AM

Damn, that was fun. 20 years is a long drought. Women's team carrying the men in these games.

That game alone salvaged the entire Winter Olympics for me. The maple-ly flavored tears of the Canadians was so delicious.

And that S.O. goal. #dirty

The men weren't 1/10th as good.

She's the same age as me. I'd like to think she has some good years left in her. Still hot too. Skiing doesn't look like a sport that really would require you to be young to be good at. I can see speed skating, snow boarding, etc but what do I know. I've never skied only snowboarded.

Thank you Dane. I'm finally going to be old enough to run for president in the next election. I'd appreciate your support. I was going to extend Vice President invitations to either Mark Cuban or Elon Musk but with the recent news coming out around Cuban, I've decided I'm going to allow Mr Musk to be my running mate.
