Abrams Phantasm - Since its release in 1979, director Don Coscarelli‘s epic tale of The Tall Man, his deadly silver Sentinel Spheres, and the group of small town friends who must band together to stop his dimension-hopping schemes has captivated and terrified horror and sci-fi fans around the world. An immediate success, bringing in 40 times its production budget, the film has influenced generations of filmmakers. Thirty-seven years later, PHANTASM has been finally restored to its original glory by J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot and Coscarelli, with a stunning new remaster and 5.1 surround sound mix from the original elements that ensures Phantasm will be around to scare the hell out of generations to come. |

Looks a bit similar to Ghostwatch (1992). I watched We Are Still Here (2015) last night. It's ok. Could have been really good, but there are a couple of weak spots in the script - particularly the ambiguous ending, and many of the scenes involving Monte Markham's character. Still worth the watch. |

That special looks really good... genuine satanists can unleash some powerful forces, its nothing to **** with Quote:
SPOILERS BELOW FOR ANYONE PLANNING TO WATCH Just googled a few things on it... Markhams character was originally written as being an old god in human form, there to make sure the Dagmar demons were satisfied. But they apparently settled on him being a local that takes it upon himself to make sure the Dagmars get their family, lest the evil come into town The ending wasnt explained quite as well, the best I could find is that Bobby followed the mom and dad there and was the reason they were spared It wasnt bad at all for a B movie |

It's short on scares and very very long on faux retro commercials.

The Gate was a good horror movie for kids. It's in the same vein as the original Gremlins, The Monster Squad, Witches, and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

I have the original Maniac (1934) I think it's great I also have original House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price I liked that one but hated the remake. I love the original horror movies but remakes notsomuch. Also those are nice gifs thank you for posting them for our better understanding for the movie very kind of you. |
Have you seen the Rifftrax version of the original House on Haunted Hill? It's hilarious.
http://cinemageddon.net/cauldron.php...%2F7wn1gCp.png I agree about the remake by the way. Vincent Price was the man. My Top Ten Favorite Vincent Price Movies: The Last Man on Earth (1964) The best version of Richard Matheson's classic "I Am Legend." This should be as highly regarded as The Night of the Living Dead imo. They are very similar films in many ways. The Masque of the Red Death (1964) Price made several movies with Roger Corman that were loosely based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. This is my favorite. Unlike most of Corman's movies, this one never feels limited by its budget. The colors are lush and vibrant, Price is excellent as the black hearted Prince Prospero, and Corman does an excellent job of blending a couple of Poe's stories into one low budget masterpiece. Theatre of Blood (1973) One of my favorite horror comedies. Price really hams it up. He looks like he's having a ball acting out his character's Shakespearean themed revenge plot. House of Wax (1953) The film that turned Price into a horror icon. The first color 3-D feature from a major American studio. The Tingler (1959) Schlock, but damn fun. It had to have been an absolute blast to watch this in the theater with all of William Castle's gimmicks. The Fly (1958) Another classic. I was really creeped out by the ending as a kid. It isn't gory or anything, but there is something... terrible... about it. There are very few horror movies that are actually horrifying. This one is to me. It will probably just be corny to most of you though. Pit and the Pendulum (1961) Another great Corman/Price Poe movie. This one features scream queen Barbara Steele. An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe (1970) From the eight movies he made based on his writings it's obvious Price had a love for Poe's stories. This is the culmination of that, as Price does a one man show of four of Poe's most famous stories. Witchfinder General (1968) Of all the bad guys Price played, Matthew Hopkins is easily the most evil. |

My favorite director is Alfred Hitchcock and my favorite movie is The Birds. I also have Vertico I was enthralled to the end and the ending had a suspenseful twist I was like oh wow. And I have a two disk three movie set of some of his earlier work one Murderer is quite intriguing and also unrespecting ending. I have yet to see the other two Sabotage and Jamaican Inn I am saving to watch them on Halloween. I plan watch a lot of horror movies on Halloween all night long. |

I think you may be disappointed if you save those two for a special occasion. "Sabotage" is ok and it's fun to see how cute the old lady from Beetlejuice used to be... http://115.imagebam.com/download/2WL...2203311/ss.png ... but Jamaica Inn is really bad. On paper it should be amazing: the source book by Daphne Du Maurier is a pretty good potboiler with a lot of atmosphere, Charles Laughton was at his peak, and Maureen O'Hara was beautiful, but none of it comes together. It's terrible. What makes it even more surprising is that Hichcock was able to make the somewhat similar movie "Rebecca" into a classic just a year or two later. There is a made for tv version of "Jamaica Inn" from 1983 that is much better, imo. It stars Jane Seymour and Patrick McGoohan. Have you watched any episodes of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" of "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour"? Those may make some good Halloween viewing. A few good episodes off the top of my head: Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Revenge Where Beauty Lies Specialty of the House Man from the South No Pain Apex Poison A Man with a Problem The Right Kind of House None are So Blind The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: The Jar An Unlocked Window A few more non classic movies for the less discriminating: Deathdream (1972) The Entity (1981) Martin (1977) Dead & Buried (1981) Razorback (1984) Rituals (1977) Society (1989) Slither (2006) Dead Heat (1988) Long Weekend (1978) Suspense: No Place to Hide (1981) Murder by Natural Causes (1979) |
I have seen Alfred Hitchcock presents before That's why I love him so much he is very charming and sets the tone for the movie.
I doubt I'm too disappointed because I know it's his early work and he became a master. |
Yeah, Hitch was my favorite anthology host. His intros sticking it to the sponsors were always fun. I also like how he always delivered the droll, tongue in cheek "crime doesn't pay" closing speeches to appease the censors.

I posted this in the Halloween thread but I'm posing it here because I want to talk about it. I think Halloween III got a bad wrap because it didn't follow with Michael Myers story but I think it's a great Halloween movie. It's been a long time sense I've seen it but I remember it kinda well and I think it was freaky to think about with the masks being sold that were mind control. |

Oh, I had forgotten about this one: The Manitou. It's an odd ball.
Plot A woman named Karen (Susan Strasberg), who is suffering from a growing tumor on her neck, enters a hospital in San Francisco. After a series of X-rays, the doctors begin to think it is a living creature: a fetus being born inside the tumor. Eerie and grisly occurrences begin; the tumorous growth perceives itself – himself – to be under attack as a result of the X-rays used to ascertain its nature, which are starting to stunt and deform its development. The growth is the old Native American shaman, Misquamacus; he is reincarnating himself through the young woman to exact his revenge on white men who invaded North America and exterminated its native peoples. Karen's boyfriend, psychic fortune-teller Harry Erskine (Tony Curtis) contacts a second Native American shaman (Michael Ansara) to help fight the reincarnating medicine man, but the kind of spirits he can summon and control appear to be too weak to match his opponent's abilities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Manitou |
I stumbled across it a very long time ago on TV and could not stop watching it. Kind of like a car wreck.

I don't have a clue of the name of the movie I remembered as a kid but I thought it was great and only caught it mid way and I don't think ever knew what it was but it had some killer kick ass music and these slugs would go into peoples mouths then possess them and I remember someone driving fast in a car out to a field or barn and there was a huge monster that was kind of slimy and iirc would eat those people that the slugs possessed but I don't really remember it well.
****ing hate not knowing what this movie was. |

I may need to start watching more "horror" flicks. I hated them when I was young, because they always gave me nightmares. I've steered clear from them since then. Last night, for Halloween, I actually snuggled up with the boyfriend and watched the Poltergeist reboot. Totally not as scary as I thought it would be.
