Robert Pattison is in a new film out now with Willem Dafoe called The Lighthouse, it's getting oscar buzz as best picture. I was going see it last week and my local theater pulled it already. I guess it's not tearing up the box office.

I didn't. I knew that he had range, but not like he displayed in TDKT. I recall at the time thinking that he'd have made a good riddler, or something like that, and not Bruce/Batman

Man, this movie as incredible. It's shot in 1.19:1 ratio, which I believe is nearly the same as the early talkies, but it does a fantastic job of making you feel cramped. Dafoe is Dafoe and may have been born for this role and does a phenomenal job, but Pattinson knocks it out of the park and never lets Dafoe's performance outshine his own.

If you don't like ****ing weird arthouse films I cannot recommend this one to you. When it ended it left me pretty ****ed up for a bit.

Not a ringing endorsement from the man who's likely going to play this character for a couple films at least. I guess he's never met a firefighter, cancer survivor, or even his own parents to know there are superheroes in the world.

Sidenote: I don't know if anyone here has seen the King on Netflix, but the way that movie ends is absolutely hilarious in regards to his character.

I think you're confusing heroes with superheroes. Superheroes by definition have super powers. Without getting into Batman (although it is debatable, he has no super powers, of course neither does Iron Man & now we're splitting hairs) but the people you mention above are heroes no doubt, but I wouldn't really call them superheroes.

Does Batman's really high IQ count as a superpower?

That's a fair point, you could also argue that his gadgets (especially considering we've seen him in essence in an Iron Man suit that doesn't fly) give him superhuman abilities. But I'm just saying I can see the point he's making, you can certainly argue he's not a super hero.

Granted if someone was paying me millions to play Batman I'm not sure I'd make that point.

sedated 12-02-2019 03:28 PM

He's pretty much right. Having enough money to buy all sorts of gadgets does not make one a "superhero".

IQ? Is Sherlock Holmes considered a superhero?

Martial arts training? What about Bruce Lee?

Setsuna 12-03-2019 08:09 PM

This looks as bad as I thought it would look. The actor has a weird face and a weirdly shaped head. Reminds me of those 90's cartoons where the artists were really good but intentionally made all of the characters funny looking.

That's a fair assessment. He wasn't bad as Bruce Wayne. And the alter ego is more important in my view when playing a character that dresses up. But they still need to get it close. Bale had to become leaner, Reeve had to bulk up and was still borderline. DC has more strikes than gutterballs in casting

But they do have some big misses. Like the last Luthor. I'm not sure that he could've been a good Lex. And they've also mucked up how they wrote, directed actors like Bane in Batman and Robin. And Mr. Freeze

Kilmer definitely gave the same depth of character to it as Keaton, but without the off putting pencil neck... even as a kid I couldn’t really see Keaton as Batman, it ruined an otherwise great movie for me

So Kilmer was definitely an upgrade, but Bale is the undisputed champ

Pattinson has turned into a fantastic actor over the last decade or so and Reeves is one of the best directors in the business. They’re going to kill this shit.

The writing was meh for his role. Not his fault. Also everyone scoffed at Ledger as joker and he crushed it. Maybe Pattinson can pull this off especially with this director.

I actually like the homemade aesthetic, it's just a shame about the ears and eyes.

The thing about the ears, they are drawn like that in the comics a lot (thin and far back) and they look good from a flat 3/4 angle. But only that angle. The comics have the luxury of cheating, they can draw them different so they work from any angle. The eyes are just misguided. It looked dumb in The Dark Knight and it looks dumb here. He's not Spider-Man. If they want to do the lensed eyes, they've got to do it CG like Deadpool.

Beef Supreme 02-22-2020 03:31 PM

Pattinson's body type and ****ed up head make him a better match for the Aeon Flux role.

I'm just wondering what those silver things on his forearms are, look almost Black Widow-esque to me, some type of dart launcher or something. Could just be there for show, but looks like a much more militarized, armor like version of the suit than before.

@ScottWamplerBMD: The vibe I get from everything I've seen, heard, and read about THE BATMAN indicates that Matt Reeves is making a dark (but, crucially, fun) detective story with a shitload of gadgets, villains, and Bat-lore. Don't know why anyone would be mad about that. Sounds rad as hell imho.

I agree with this... definitely intrigued

Easy 6 03-04-2020 05:20 PM

Between the vintage Batcycle and this car, they’re definitely going for an old school vibe... like maybe it’ll be set in the early 60s or something

At least they’re trying to be different I guess, we’ll see...

I've seen conjecture that they're going for a Bruce Timm Animated Series vibe, a mix of vintage and high tech.

Looks solid, interesting how he’s already cool enough with Gordon and the police to be hanging out in a crime scene together. Looks like the action and fights will be hard hitting which I think is key for believability. It almost has a Netflix Daredevil vibe to it. In on day one for sure.
