As an oldtimer this is a bad idea, because then you're pushing upon a mob mentality. BTW, we tried this before and it was discontinued because of said reason
|
Hate the idea.
|
I'll be serious for a moment too. Really seems like something that isn't needed. It's just gonna be used to signal out groups of postera who people don't like. Like the Alex ball washers or the Alex bashers. While you recommend posters here to use this system "correctly," it will realistically just get abused, as this place is small enough where you know every poster and who you like and don't like.
|
Kind of mob rules in the public forum of debate...could make for petty, like-minded cliques to approve or disprove and member pile-ons.
I'm not going to use it even if I dont like the post...just going to be old fashioned and ignore it. |

See, this all illustrates that I was bang on about the average quality of 200 or so random CP posts LMAO

Nobody seems to be using this feature in the general forum.

Excellent weapon of ass destruction for today's busy Alexsexual hunter. |

Read the OP, and I won't waste time reading through the thread.
This is just another stupid ****ing idea. |

In this thread, a yellow border was around a mod post chiding Sweet Daddy Hate, whose post was greyed out. Essentially, the only "in nature" use of this function has HEIGHTENED the drama that people want to avoid. People bitching about how "there's no news here anymore and too many derailed threads" are going to get it way worse when they find that the only important posts that this feature reveals are the ones that are faction against faction. I mean, yes, continue the trial period, but I can predict with a good amount of certainty that this idea will fail spectacularly. |
i really dont think it will be all that useful honestly
just another way that losers can use their passive aggressive tendencies to hurl anonymous insults at their enemies and rub the cock and balls of their butt-lovers maybe if we could see the names of those thumbs upping and downing everything it might be more useful or maybe if you only got like a few thumbs up and downs per day, like rep.. i dunno i am resistant to change tho so its probably just me |
I like it.
|
Actually, now that I think about it, I like the up/down vote option but I don't care for posts being hidden or highlighted based on what everyone else thinks.
|
Hoo boy
|
If we bother to do this at all I'd prefer a 1-5 star/up/down system.
I know, that's a pain in the ass and it's probably better just not doing it. But if we're going by the Netflix model (5 star rating OR up/down) I'd prefer to just keep it as it is and save you guys the work... |

We should get a hold of NASA to see if they can figure it out. |
I just cast my first vote in a thread, and it was really exciting.
|
I seem to be the only person upvoting posts in other threads. I don't really downvote stuff I don't like, I just upvote the stuff I really do like.

What's the ****ing point of the yellow border posts? They said people who want to skip over shitty posts can do that by jumping to yellow border posts. Here's a yellow post that everybody liked that has nothing to do with the Chiefs or football, but only puts re-surfaces the bullshit that people supposedly want to avoid. I'm saying the yellow border idea is dumb and stupid because it's never going to work for its intended use, and even if it does, nobody votes on posts often enough to make the event a common enough frequency to begin scanning for when they read a thread. |

But you're complaining that a gold post in a thread that has nothing to do with football or the chiefs isn't about the chiefs or football. |

People aren't using the feature. That's why it will stink. And if they do use it, it will probably be somebody bashing a poster who's being a dumbass. |
They should just call it the "Smith Button".
Because it sucks. |

So, if not a lot of people are using it, the golden/shaded/hidden posts aren't going to be an issue at all. Personally, I think it's a thing that will take some time to catch on. |
nobody is using this. Another failed experiment by the Mods.
|
|
This was fun for like 5 minutes.
|
It's not too bad.
|
If nobody is using it, then it doesn't make any difference if it's there or not.

I don't see the ability to hide posts from anal fornicational intellectual incapacitants being a bad thing.
Dinny |
I have been using the feature quite a bit instead of rep comments or a reply of "This". Negative impact on post count maybe but faster and I don't really care about post count.
|
I just thumbed up a lousy post by mistake. No way to undo it and change the vote?

Minor update on this. The upvote/downvote thing will now show in your UserCP as a rep with a simple "Thumbs up" or "Thumbs down" comment. They don't really impact rep points/power much and are only worth around 1/10th of the usual rep power, but the initial feedback is that it would be fun to have some sort of log. So there ya go.
We'll see how it goes. |
You can't rep them after you thumb them
