Alf, Third Rock from the Sun, the list goes on.
|
I guess in my mind I didn't really categorize those as sci-fi comedies... more just sitcoms with alien characters.

I actually feel a tangible difference since doing so, as I’m no longer constantly bombarded with opinions that I didn’t request. And yet CP has decided to go Upvote/Downvote. Irony at its finest. |

Now that The Orville has been officially renewed for Season 2, I need to catch up on the last few episodes.
|
Good enough to keep watching.
I am surprised. |
I loved the Dr's...
Spoiler!
|
Well, if last night’s episode *wasn’t* an episode of TNG...

Just getting rid of it was good enough for me. Don't have that problem with Twitter or Instagram. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |

I hated that episode. Why did we have to watch whiny kids fighting? Kids don't change? They could have showed that in a couple of minutes.

I've thought about giving the show a try, but am tired of Hollywood jamming their agenda down my throat - and I've heard this show does some of that. Does CP agree?

Star Trek has always been a "morality tale", which is why the Abrams produced movies and even Enterprise have missed the mark. |
Tried watching this. Couldn't finish the first episode with the mom and two kids crash landing with the robot. Completely unwatchable.
|
You picked a weak episode to start with.
|
It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. The Doctor was a bit hypocritical in her actions. Stab the guy that basically saved her and then shoot him. Really? Maybe use something in the medical bag to incapacitate him and then escape?
Very predictable and would the Captain really risk the entire ship and crew to go through a rift which could result in them being destroyed for two crew members and two badly behaved children? At least they are trying to keep the episodes diverse and not be Kirk/Spock/McCoy each week. Not that it was a bad thing. And thankfully, NO WHESLEY!!!!!!!!! |

The last episode was hilarious. More than a little disturbing, but also hilarious. Interesting take on the Ilia character from the first Star Trek movie.
I either didn't notice the credits or it wasn't there, but almost immediately I realized the blue alien was played by Rob Lowe. Great casting choice. LMAO |

This series seems to get better every episode. Loved the last one...characters were spot on and the plot was cool. Standing on the shoulders of the next generation.
|
I dont normally go for this type stuff. I am not a Trekkie or a Star Wars fanboy but I like this show. It moves along fast has some humor makes you think with a moral to the story. I hope they can keep it up without going off the rails because as it is now its a winner.
|
Will keep watching.

So far, to me at least, this is a very ST-NG show with comedy added. I think it does a good job of pointing out social issues ST might run into, while confronting our own, and NOT taking a preachy side. |
Watched the first 3 episodes on my phone last night before I ran out of data. I enjoyed it.
|
Okay, I’m sure Seth MacFarlane sold Fox on “The Orville” by telling them it would be “like ‘Galaxy Quest’ but raunchy”. But instead he’s made a show that’s both funny as well as thought provoking and intelligent and as scientific as any “Trek”. The season ender was hilarious and horrifying and allegorical and scientifically out-there all at once, and still had room for human emotion. Compared to his other works like “Ted” and “Family Guy”, this show is like if Weird Al wrote a symphony to rival Beethoven’s 5th.

Unrelated to your comment, but I wanted to hate The Orville because I'm really not entertained by most of SM's humor, but the show has some great writing and characters despite some stupid sophomoric jokes. I will agree that there are a few low brow jokes that do hit the mark pretty well. I know this will appear nitpicky to most, but I really wish they would have explained that Ed and Gordon met during a history class of the late 20th century or something. Most of the jokes are based on pop culture from this era, after all. |
I'm amazed how much LESS SJW is in the Orville than the new ST series.
To me, this looks like TNG with humor. Well, MORE humor... |
I’m not really loving it yet. It’s good enough to keep watching and hoping it gets better. I haven’t really developed much connection with any of the characters yet.

Back this Sunday baby

Weird premiere date?
Sounds like FOX doesn’t have much faith in it? |

(and no, Orville is not as good or the same as Firefly, but it's definitely good enough. Fox will still **** it up, you watch.) |
What are the redeeming qualities that make Orville good TV? Never watched it but I've went to shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia because people swore by it and I;m glad I did.
Also eager to see and learn |

And it’s far better than what’s currently passing as actual Star Trek. |

The season opener sucked. Hard. Mercer stalking Kelly, the doctor's brat getting mixed up with a bad kid, Bortus having to go home to pee. WTF? Worst episode of the show so far. Can't believe they used it as a season opener; if that had been the first episode I ever watched, I would not watch again.
No where to go but up, I guess. :shake: |
I thought it was great. Only part I didn't like was alara (is that her name?) getting set up with the alien. It's nice having an episode of entirely dialogue. To each their own.

Huge disappointment. |
Well that sucks. I was bummed I forgot about it, but maybe nor so much now.

The one that really cracked me up was when I realized it was Rob Lowe who played the blue alien that ****ed Kelly. |
yeah, not a good season opener. Felt like a stupid filler episode but why would you open with a filler episode? Oh well, hopefully thats the only stinker.
|
I didn't like this last episode. Wasn't the inhabited planet falling into the star done already in TNG?
|
Porn addiction as a subject? Really? Two bad episodes. Not a good start.
|
Make that two HORRIBLE episodes - just finished watching the second pile of crap.
Did Kathleen Kennedy secretly take over production? Good lord. I guess if anybody ever wondered what Worf would have been like if he was queer and emo, now we know. Strike one and strike two. 4321 |
It's like a shitty Natural Light version of STTNG.
Which is disappointing after hearing about how different season 2 was going to be. It's just more flat humor, bad writing, inane plots trying to hide behind pretty visuals. Not going to stay on my DVR many more weeks at this rate (not that it was on my DVR this week anyway with the Spectrum/Tribune spat). |
I thought I'd check this thread and everyone would be talking about how it redeemed itself after that first shitty episode.
I thought this one was hilarious. To each their own I guess. |
Not a bad episode, but I don't like the idea of the show having basically zero sympathetic characters now.
|
Not only can I not watch Orville right now because of Spectrum's pissing contest with Fox, but apparently I can't even get it on demand because these two cocksucking megacorporations are trying to squeeze the last drop of blood out of each other.
|
You don't have hulu? I think the first episode this season is free here https://www.fox.com/the-orville/

This weeks ep was definitely better that the last two and next weeks look like a step in the right direction. Hopefully those first two were the filler eps and they decided to get them out of the way quickly. |

Finally a good one
|
How can the first two be so ****ing bad and the last two so ****ing good.
|
Finally watched the last episode about first contact. It was lame as ****, although probably not quite as lame as the first two of the season.
This show is just about to lose my interest. It's not just Star Trek Light - it's lazy, silly and stupid Star Trek Light. The last one was like a bad early NG episode, minus the quality actors who could at least make it somewhat bearable. Plus, the cute super strong brunette has been replaced with a not-cute super strong brunette. She was probably the most interesting character on the show. ****ers. Mercer is more like Barkley than Kirk. Gay Worf is as annoying as the new Klingons on Discovery, and the rest of them are just bleh. This has really gone down the shitter quickly. Should be finding its footing and getting better. Instead, it's getting worse. While Discovery is getting much better. Go figure. |
