In those places people come to work sick, and its spreads and spreads. Sometimes it even cycles a few times. Those places really need to re think their policiies.

An old employer was like that. They finally wised up and counted an absence as a period of time missed without work, instead of just one shift. Anything three days or longer required a doctor's note, or it counted as multiple absences.

My new job is salaried. Very few people in the office. The policy is "If you're sick, we don't want it, so stay home." I missed 2 days shortly after I started with a stomach bug. I hated missing work, so I tried coming in. My bosses looked at me and told me to go home. It's amazing. I managed not to puke from right before leaving for work until getting back home two hours later. I missed 4 days at the beginning of this year with the flu. That was NOT fun.

Well if the boss was sick and came in anyway, I would go home. My bro-in-law got promoted to supervisor at Case Mfg. and was sick his first day after promotion, felt he couldn't miss on his first day of supervisor, worked all day, went home and died. But I have worked for myself for the last 30 years so it really hasn't ever been an issue for me.

I'd rather miss a few days of work to get better and non-contagious than to have to deal with it for weeks or know that I caused other people to catch it. That's just me. In the two years I've been at my job, I've missed 6 days due to being sick, and I only miss work when I'm puking or running a fever.

I didn't know I had a fever, I guess ignorance is bliss. At this current juncture I cannot miss any days, we are too busy (good thing), if I miss I would have to spend 2 days fixing everything. I should be fine to make it to the weekend, plus I have the antibiotics in my system now.

Five times I've had to have an ambulance called for me due to heart trouble (twice it was a heart attack, three times heart arrhythmia which led to me getting my pacemaker/defibrillator).

Each time i had gone to work with symptoms, but I was determined to finish out the day then go to the emergency room.

Didn't quite make it.

^Not that it was a contest, but you win. I hope to never have anything like that happen to me. Hope your health is good currently!

Puked twice in my office, spent another few hours on the shitter one night (with a GD laptop!) dabbing from the runs, with what was a fever of 102 by the time I got home... Another day I hated Cisco and NOT getting the Australian TAC!

Worst I ever was I had a severe sinus infection, bronchitis, and pneumonia before it knocked me out of work for a couple days.

HC_Chief 04-10-2013 02:49 PM

Pneumonia; until my voice gave out.

I have never missed a day of work from getting sick. Never. You sickly gurly men

BigMeatballDave 04-10-2013 03:31 PM

Usually, I'll only miss work when I have diarrhea.

TrebMaxx 04-10-2013 03:53 PM

I will admit that there have been very few times I called in sick due to actual illness but I did take some mental health days.

AIDS

Been at my current job approx. 9 months, called in sick once.

I typically miss 1-3 days per year which is pretty good in my opinion.

I typically don't post on Chiefsplanet during work hours either. I'll get on from noon to 1:00 while eating lunch from time to time.

ThaVirus 04-10-2013 04:07 PM

I've only been working for about 6 years now, but I have yet to call in sick.

With that said, I rarely ever get sick. When I do, its a cold or a headache at most.

One thing I will say though: I'd call in for work in a ****ing HEARTBEAT if I get a migraine. I've only ever had two of them in my adult life and those things are the most debilitating ailments I could ever imagine.

Al Bundy 04-10-2013 04:44 PM

I missed a day after getting knocked unconscious which caused a serious concussion. Also lost a day this year by losing my voice completely. I have a friend that manages a store that if you miss more than one day due to being sick they terminate you if you don't have a doctors note.
