The object lesson with FA is not to seek half measures. Mid-level free agents often end up being the worst value of all because you end up paying a WAR premium for their decline years without them ever giving the team superior seasons (5+ WAR seasons) to offset their decline years.

LOL @ fans worrying about Dewallet's profit margins over winning a championship. Best fans in baseball my ass.

they are making tons of profit. We are nowhere near the Cardinals cap. They could jack the payroll up another $50 million and still let the billionaire keep $20 million in profit.

Not happening due to politics.

Leroy, you are just stupid as Hell.

Seriously? Another FA reliever on the wrong side of thirty in obvious decline? At least he hasn't lost 1.5 mph from his peak or the value from his slider. Oh wait....**** you, Mo.

****. Why does Mo have to overpay for relievers on their downside every year? I understand when Matheny was blowing up pitchers arms. You know it’s going to happen to you. Pay me now. But, Matheny is gone. Why?

What’s your evidence for this? A hunch?

The Royals signed a ton of mid level FA in 13-15 and struck major gold. Mid level guys come with much shorter terms so there aren’t as many recline years to begin with.

Because. He's. Terrible. At. This.

Dexter Fowler and $25 million in fungible reliever with Cecil, Miller and Gregerson. He just keeps doubling down on the same failed plan.

And good news! 2019 is the BEST year we'll have for the next 5 and its strictly a wild-card push.

Dexter Fowler, Brett Cecil, Luke Gregorson, Greg Holland come to mind.

But hey, giving up draft picks and $40 million for four guys that gave you about -2 WAR is often a sound investment strategy. And Fowler and Cecil, despite being the definition of mid-level guys, had five and four year deals, respectively.

Please, tell me more about this, though.

Prison Bitch 12-20-2018 07:18 PM

I don’t dispute the names you listed. Only if it’s a provable thesis. I suspect FA signings in mlb are purely random walks.

ChiefsCountry 12-20-2018 09:16 PM

Depends on Miller's health. Shoulder problem is a concern. The other injury's he had are just nagging ones - hamstring and knee.

Oh yeah, the history of relievers with shoulder problems in their mid-30s is just !@#$ing stellar.

So its probably 5. Because Cusumano is a disphit.

Miller will be getting the Cecil/Holland treatment while struggling to break 93 by June. This team is ****ing stupid.
