But he's REALLY struggled over the last several years outside of that. Moreover, the 1st round picks he's gotten right were either guys taken in the top 5 or guys who you're sitting there shouting "NOOOOOO!!!! Why is this guy falling!! The damn Chargers are gonna get him!" Derwin James and Rashawn Slater are the easiest examples. I could not for the life of me figure out why the league let either of those guys fall to SD. They were picks that anybody on this board could've made. He took a gamble on Herbert and it hit. But correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Herbert a guy who most thought would go 1.1 that season and he had an off year? It wasn't as though the guy didn't have a massive pedigree. A tough platform season pushed him behind Tua and for most that made very little sense. Even that had an element of luck to it. |

The Raiders are really positioning themselves to be at the bottom of the AFC West for the foreseeable future.

Mark Davis:
Hires Broncos coach that the Raiders put 59 points on. Hires Chargers GM that the Raiders put 63 points on. What is next? Hiring Todd Haley?? Herm Edwards? What failed Chief will he hire? |

Telesco built some very talented teams in SD.
Poor bastard was also in SD where talented teams have been doomed forever. Not my top choice, but not terrible either. |
Meh, I was hoping Telesco would end up in KC in an advisory role. Dud NAILS his first round picks every single year. James and Slater were both incredible picks at their spots in the draft.

They were as obvious a pick as you'll ever see. Credit to Telesco, I guess, for not overthinking it. But both of those guys were CLEARLY the best guys on the board when they went off. |
People like to cry for Buffalo but the Raiders might have to watch the Chiefs and Mahomes become a dynasty in their own stadium.

Hell, with SD/LA, it goes even further back than that, well before Telesco. Year after year, I remember SD taking a player I really liked, seemingly, right before KC drafted and we got stuck with the leftovers. Think: what WE did to Buf vis-a-vis McDuffie/Elam. It seems like it happened time after time, but the one I recall most vividly was Olshansky going right ahead of KC's pick and our need for a DT/DE. Who'd we get? Junior ****ing Siavii. **** is etched into my brain, so I'm a bit biased, I suppose. Who'd you rather have? Ryan Simms or Quinten Jammer? Bernard Pollard or Marcus McNeil? |
Did I see the Fade are looking at Stoolers QB coach to be their OC?? Please God, I hope this never ends!

Raiders are ****ed.

Raiders are done. So that's nice. Broncos are ****ed. Chargers will still Charger.

An NFC executive told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Russell Wilson could be traded to the Raiders this offseason.
There’s almost no chance Wilson returns to the Broncos for a third season under center after head coach Sean Payton benched the one-time superstar QB in Week 17. The NFC executive pointed out that the Raiders were among the team’s on Wilson’s 2021 wishlist when it was clear his time in Seattle was over. The Raiders, under new head coach Antonio Pierce, will need to upgrade at quarterback this offseason after Aidan O’Connell struggled mightily as the team’s starter in the season’s second half. Wilson, who had the league’s third best completion rate over expected in 2023, would certainly be an upgrade for Davante Adams. |

Raiders are expected to hire former Cardinals’ head coach Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator, per league sources. https://twitter.com/JFowlerESPN/stat...20021227028962 The #Raiders interviewed former #Browns head coach Hue Jackson for an offensive staff position, per source. Jackson has a long history with Marvin Lewis, who's set to join the Vegas staff. |

Yup. Raiders have some nice weapons in Adams, Meyers and now Bowers, plus Maxx Crosby on the other side of the ball, but their OL hasn't been good for awhile now, and they don't have a starting-caliber QB. Still. |

Both Pittsburgh and Las Vegas were badly in need of a QB upgrade. So why was Pittsburgh able to get both Wilson and Fields and the Raiders couldn’t get either of them or anyone.
Surely , they could’ve outbid Pittsburgh for Fields who bought him for nothing essentially. He is better than what they have now, and who knows he might even turn out to live up to his potential, although that would be a surprise. |

Wilson is better, maybe. Not a guy I'd want to bet on though. |

I agree that bringing in Fields would not be any guarantee of better performance and would be essentially throwing a third dart. But why not when that dart is basically free.
That’s what Pittsburgh did and it was a very good decision. No downside. And possibly some upside. |

I'd say if we wanted Fields, he would have been ours. I'm guessing Getsy was thrilled to be away from Fields. |
Uhoh
1. The quarterback situation is concerning Both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew struggled during OTAs. They split snaps with the first string fairly evenly, but neither found much success during the practices that were open to reporters. The quarterbacks (and the rest of the offense) are still in the early stages of getting comfortable in coordinator Luke Getsy’s offense. Understandably, there have been some growing pains, but it’s still troubling that neither O’Connell nor Minshew displayed much progress results-wise by the end of OTAs. Both quarterbacks struggled to push the ball downfield, had too many off-target throws and frequently put the ball in harm’s way. The Raiders will need better than that to avoid the offense being a liability yet again. The good news is there’s still plenty of time for O’Connell and Minshew to get better in training camp before the season arrives. “I told our guys, ‘Don’t get frustrated, just trust the process,’” Pierce said. “I think you’ll see growth as we go through training camp.” |

You promised no bandaids. This is what you get. But they both have great mustaches. |
Raiders/Raiders fans are going to hang their hats on that XMas win over the Chiefs for 5 years. It will be the high point of so many careers, which is simultaneously funny and depressing all at the same time. Raiders, Broncos, and Chargers will be gifted pre-season titles by the on-air prognosticators but they will never ever come to pass. Maxx Crosby can force any head coaching hires he wants — the guy will never win anything with the Raiders.

That win cost us draft position for a QB, saddled us with AP, and woke up the Chiefs. Pyrrhic victory. We should have kept McIdiot for the year and bottomed out. Fire him and then draft a QB. But Mark is a reactionary and can only win WNBA titles. |
Quote:
AP literally only brought in coaches and players who beat him. Getsy (Chicago's OC) and Minshew (Colts' QB). Even a Vikings RB. Tannehill should sit and wait for a contending team's QB to be injured and pull a Flacco. |

Matt Millen figured out from one interview he was a bust waiting to happen. The man was sent out with blank DVD and he could say the next day how he studied the film. |

I was at the game vs Denver when Jalardass made his first appearance. The stadium roared and was shaking. He looked like a man among boys he was so big in the huddle. He played a couple of series and looked good. It all went down hill after that. Big boy though. Looked like a lineman

The Raiders took a chance at QB and it failed. Took the Chiefs 35 years to draft another QB in the 1st after their debacle in that great early 80's draft class of QB's.
