Yeah that's dumb as ****

jd1020 09-29-2018 02:29 PM

I think the entire playoff seeding is dumb as ****.

The best teams in each league are penalized if they are in the same division as another best team.

Just get rid of divisions and adopt the NBA model.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-29-2018 02:45 PM

The one game wildcard is the dumbest thing I've ever seen

jd1020 09-29-2018 03:16 PM

Eliminate divisions, balance the schedule, top 6 teams from each league go to the playoffs, top 2 go to the "divisional round", remaining 4 play in a 3 game series.

Eliminate the bullshit of having teams like the Tigers play in a shit division make it to the playoffs with the 7th best record in their league.

Or situations like the Pirates having to face a couple Cy Young pitchers in a 1 game playoff.

I don't think divisions should be eliminated, but playoff selection should be based solely on record. So you won a shit division but six other teams had better records? You get a division champion shirt and a participation trophy and October off while the actual good teams play.

Should be that way in football, too.

BigRedChief 09-29-2018 04:11 PM

Well they played game 161 and not eliminated yet. I guess that’s something. :)

You still run into issues with unblanced schedules.

Sure you could still balance the schedule with divisions but you'll only play any individual team in your division at most 10 times a season so what's the point in keeping divisions in that scenario.

I don't think eliminating divisions would kill rivalries because most rivalries are regional in the first place. Like Cubs and Cardinals is a rivalry because fanbases territory meets in the middle. But I don't consider the Reds or Pirates a rival even though they are in the same division because they are so far away from the division geographically.

jd1020 09-29-2018 05:52 PM

Brewers gonna **** up the door the Cardinals just opened for them to catch the Cubs?

Mo is not going anywhere. What is with you and an obsession with getting rid of one guy, Pham’s gone, that’s your yearly quota.

It is 297 miles from Chicago to St. Louis
It is 294 from Chicago to Cincinnati

And?

The Cards and Cubs split the same state in which the Cubs are in and the Cards play on the border. The Brewers are 30 mins north.

There's an entire state that separates the Reds from the closest team to the west.

I'm right smack dab in the middle of Cubs-Cards country and it's about 90 mins to St. Louis and about 2 1/2 hours to Chicago. Its 5 hours to Cincinatti.
