Like... seriously. With a 2nd and two 3rds, he better be able to find a NT and two CBs who don't suck from day one.

And he better find some goddamn DL depth somewhere in the rest of the picks.

We're so ****ing ****ed on D.

Marcellus 03-13-2018 06:02 AM

That's a high annual value but only 3 years. Smart.

I wonder why teams aren't doing this more. Player gets more $ guaranteed and the contract isn't an albatross.

And since Direkshun hates it you know its a slam dunk smart move.

With the right moves in free agency and the draft, the defense can be shored up.

No. **** it. Spend all the money on Watkins this year. Lower the hit in 2019 and 2020.

We need maneuverability to re-sign players and fill in gaps if we're going to take advantage of these cheap Mahomes years.

Like it or not, 2018 isn't the year we should be going all-in on.

The upside being it's two years but ideally we'd be extending Tyreek long term next year.

This! 100 percent.

I get signing the WR when one like Watkins can be had. I look for Veach to look for a veteran OG next. Those wanting FA defensive players are going to be disappointed. Those will be home grown.

WHO IS THIS PERSON

OnTheWarpath15 03-13-2018 06:15 AM

Strictly from a $$$ perspective...

Veach turned Alex Smith and Tamba Hali into Kendall Fuller, Sammy Watkins and $9M in cap space.

WhawhaWhat 03-13-2018 06:21 AM

Allen Robinson 3 years, $42 mil ($25 mil guaranteed)
Mike Evans 5 years, $85.5 mil ($55 mil guaranteed)
Sammy Watkins 3 years, $48 mil ($30 mil guaranteed)

Chargem 03-13-2018 06:21 AM

Yup. Enough to go get a corner as well. Cut Bailey and they can add two to the DL comfortably.

Different player, Watkins is speed and explosion, Robinson is more of a possession type and he's coming off an ACL.

The nice thing with this also is it allows the team to be able to move Hill into the slot in 3 WR looks and still have a threat outside.

The pay/yr is in line with Antonio Brown and Deandre Hopkins deals from last year. My mind is full of ****.

When I heard we might sign Watkins, my first thought was yeah! that's a guy with a lot of upside. Not at 16 million though. Thats already an every year superstar money. I don't get it.

It's because of his age and what he can do, he should explode here. You gotta pay for talent and this is a guy who can put the offense over the top.

Those guys will get 24 to 25 milliin in a few years. Cap is skyrocketing every year. You can't compare past contracts. Keenum is getting 20 million for ****s sake and he has ZERO potential.

After I watched that thread of 2017 GIFs last night, I felt like Watkins was easily worth big money based on those alone. I mean he was getting good separation against the game’s best corners.

That's not true

1. He didn't want to be here; he's West Coast, mu-afuka. All the cornpone white folk out here don't understand his brand of swag...he wone go home.

2. He told all 32 teams (including the Chiefs) that the only long term deal he was willing to sign was with a west coast team in California.

So...why WOULD they pay that POS!?

Especially after the Jets game : forget what we saw; the whole slapping his mom/attacking Dave Toub/threatening to kill the team's bus driver/et al probably made what they all had to go through on Mon-Sat not worth the Sunday afternoon as a reward.

I'd have traded him for whatever I could get, while he's still worth something.

thabear04 03-13-2018 07:01 AM

Wonder if he sign with us so he can play against his old team the rams and bills.

Mecca 03-13-2018 07:01 AM

Watkins has a chance to have a huge year with Mahomes willingness to launch the ball.

Buckweath 03-13-2018 07:02 AM

It's a ton of money but love a 3-year contract and not the usual 5 years. A lot of WRs' prime is right at 25-27 years old so that's perfect.

All In 03-13-2018 07:03 AM

Wow that's a lot of money for him. Not sure this is the best use of the salary cap. Time will tell.

Mecca 03-13-2018 07:03 AM

Watkins probably also thinks the deal can set him up, yes he gets a lot now but he'll also hit FA again at 27 after possibly having huge years with a big armed QB.

Seems like a deal that benefits the team and the player.

Exactly.

Choking a coach got him shipped out of Washington...and Kansas City.

3 years and he wore out his welcome in both places.

You MUST be taking crazy pills if you don't understand why Peters is gone.

They gave money to Sammy Watkins, a player that doesn't slap his mom in front of NFL Security and actually wants to play in KC.

Who was the last one we signed? Johnnie Morton? Morton was never the athletic freak that Watkins is.

Let's remember there are guys in the draft this year that are the same age as Watkins.

chiefzilla1501 03-13-2018 07:09 AM

$16m is a bit much. But they want to surround mahomes with talent so I'm good with it. Keep in mind this is a short term deal which are usually more expensive and Id rather have a short deal for a guy like Watson. If he's anything like what we has pre foot surgery, this is a steal. Watkins has much more upside than Robinson.
