Insider tip: If you want fresh fries at any restaurant, ask for them without salt. They have to cook them separately and then you just add your own salt at the table! :D

Wow, an "insider" tip that only 99% of the country already knows.

Or you could just ask for fresh fries and not make them go through the hassle of cleaning the fry station.

Honestly I have not been an insider for a couple of decades now. My concern with simply asking for fresh fries (especially if you are going through the drive-thru) is that I am not sure I would trust them to honor that. Going saltless you know that they will be fresh.

Abba-Dabba 09-21-2017 08:20 AM

When all fries are fresh, McDonald's is the winner. They have mastered the shoestring fry in size, texture, flavor and consistency. No other chain can meet all 4 criteria like McDonald's.

1 Attachment(s)
Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs (best hot dogs too by the way) also has the best fries anywhere and it's not even close.

What's more. You can have regular fries but you can also get it so many other delicious ways.

Hopefully the attachment works so you see for yourself...

Bonus is using that mini red pitch fork. Perfect.

Abba-Dabba 09-21-2017 08:32 AM

Crinkle cut fries are great. Have to be extra crispy for me though. A soggy crinkle cut is one of the worst.

I order without salt ALL THE TIME (not for fresh, but because I actually don't want the salt), and I have never once seen any store ever clean the fry station.

Totally forgot about Nathan's fries. Those are legit.

DC.chief 09-21-2017 08:59 AM

Five Guys cajon fries have good flavor but are too soggy to be the best.

Chik fil-a waffle fries, Arby's curly fries and Checkers seasoned fries are all pretty good.

My fav are from a place called Pizza Bolis. Not sure if that's just a local chain in northern virginia or what but damn those fries are good. Super crispy and seasoned perfectly. Their steak and cheese is tits too.

Best I've ever had was a pizza joint (now closed) Mobile. Their specialty was duck fat fries, and they were ****ing glorious.

scho63 09-21-2017 09:21 AM

Red Robin steak fries done EXTRA crispy

McDonald's for shoestrings

Houlihan's makes the best regular cut

Not a fan of skin on fries, curly fries, disco fries (Jersey thing), or any other novelty or jazzed up fries.

Fries MUST be crispy

Excellent taste in fries, good sir. Matches my list almost exactly. Never been to Pizza Bolis though...

Funny in a fast food thread, that would be the first thing to come to your mind.

You dirty boy, you.

BWillie 09-21-2017 10:14 AM

Favorite fast food places for fries: McDonalds (impressed that CP recognizes this), 5guys, Chik Filet, Whataburger
Chain restaurants: Outback, Red Robin
BBQ: Joes, Q39, Zarda

Fries I hate: Arbys (regular ones), Burger King, most of the time Wendys, Inn & Out

Pasta Little Brioni 09-21-2017 10:18 AM

ROFL at Fraud Guys. Throw back the extra turd fries shoved into the bag.

Abba-Dabba 09-21-2017 10:21 AM

Damn it. Now I have to have McD's fries for lunch.

sully1983 09-21-2017 10:23 AM

In & Out has the most consistent best tasting fries so I'll go with them.

For awhile I did really like Arby's curly fries too .

The winner of the KC Stars french fry face off was of course Joes KC BBQ so says the Stars food critic and hand selected judges. More importantly the write in winner to the Star was my favorite Rosedale BBQ.

Checkers/Rally's fries
Arby's Curly Fries

The old Carl's Jr Chili Cheese fries were the stuff of many legendary nights.

Anyone liking McDonald's fries should check out Smashburger.

I think their fries are the best McDonald's comparison AND they do them better.

So you are judging fries with chili and cheese on them?

That's like judging tortilla chips in a nachos platter as the best tortillas!

OK you got me. CJ's fries are garbage by themselves, but they were something magical once in a chili cheese world.

I like to put a bit of fried okra on top of the mashed potato after swirling the steak through it.

But I agree in general. Sacrilege to order fries with CFS.

It wasn't bad, but if some soulless, faceless chain wants me to give them my money over one of our local bar and grills they better be doing something pretty special. The one near me has somehow survived well over 5 years so someone must think it's good.

Yea their burgers aren't great. I simply meant if you like shoestring fries (I don't really) theirs are better than McDonald's. You can order them with a touch of olive oil and rosemary. Better than McDonald's.

Have some complimentary gift cards from Chick-fil-A. Not a fan in general (only been once though) but shit is free!

Choices for free items. Please discuss which is best.

Nuggets- breaded or grilled
Chicken Sandwich- breaded or grilled
Spicy Chicken Sandwich

How are their fries? Should I add them to the order or are there better sides on their menu?

Spicy chicken sandwich is the underdog, but it's the best.

Waffle fries are top tier.

Undercooked tots are pretty gross, that's one way I guess.

Fries are just meh for me no matter where I go. Just not a huge potato fan altogether. I guess I like Arby's curly fries the best. Onion rings rule all. This is for sure.

Honestly, the frozen ones you buy and doing them at home (last few minutes under the broiler is the trick) are better than most restaurants!

Slightly. I love cooking with minced onions.

Get yourself a foot long chili cheese cony with those tots. Greatest hangover remedy I have found.

There's a wing place here call Buffalo Wild Wings that offer a lunch buffet AYCE Wings $10.95 - they do tots there - not really fast food, but I'd like to indicate that they have a wing sauce that is Jalapeno/Cheddar - it's amazing and their blue cheese is slightly sweet - so damn good - I took out about 30 flats last week in one sitting.

Edit - It's actually Wild Wing Cafe - not that shitty Buffalo Wild Wing. http://www.wildwingcafe.com/

Yes, this is all correct. Top it off with a Route 44 Ocean Water or Cherry/Strawberry Limeade.

I love onions. Raw on salad. Sauteed in dishes. Just pickled some red onion this morning. I LOVE ONIONS.

I eat pretty healthy most of the time and if I splurge, it's not a hot dog. I just don't get their appeal when things like beer brats exist. Also, not a big chili fan either, probably because I never grew up with it.

Simply Red 09-23-2017 01:05 PM

haha - Orange Julius doesn't even carry dogs anymore. :(
