Nobody knew and loved Batwoman before this*. The original Batwoman was trivia answer of a character that appeared in a handful of comics in the 50s and 60s. You might be thinking of Batgirl who is a completely different character.

*By "this" I mean the reimagining of her character in the comics. The Rucka/Williams run was awesome, with some of the best comic book art, and I don't say this lightly, of all time. I have no idea if the show is any good.
