His mom is not quite 7 years older than me, and she loves me. No way I stand a chance. It's okay. He's fun to hang around.

This afternoon, Rhode Island was blanketed in a haze of smoke.

It was from a forest fire.

In ****ing Canada, near Quebec.

Let me illustrate this.

Jenna Fischer on "David Letterman" in a nice black dress. I want to make a naked sandwich using her as one slice of bread, me as the meat, and Amy Adams as the other slice.

Okay, that is insane. I didn't know smoke could travel that far.

Now I'm no different than any of you. I love the chiefs with a passion. But have you ever wondered why? What in gods name can make/break your sunday with the chiefs performance. Why do we care what this football team does? Why do we follow this team so closely?

Because we are masochists.

Deep down inside I know I'm fine.

I crashed at 10:30 last night, my legs are sore, but I had a great day yesterday. Back to work today and school tonight.

I didn't see that segment, but I *was* watching his interview with Morgan Freeman, and it was so scattershot and off-the-wall that I had to hit "record" on the TiVo so my wife could see it today, LOL. Ferguson is happily insane. He's like a drunk college frat boy who is just having a good time until someone sobers up and takes his show away. :D

The answer to your question applies to all sports fans. Sport is a substitute for war. People align themselves usually with their city/state/country and/or something they've grown attached to (e.g. university). A true Chiefs fan feels no different from a true Raiders fan, Packers fan, Cubs fan, Lakers fan, Canadiens fan, etc.,.

I think a stronger bond grows between fan and team, paradoxically, the more a team loses. A losing team weeds out the fair-weathers and bandwagoners. The few remaining loyalists band together in the knowledge that they support(ed) their team through thick and thin. And after a while, there's sort of a shared commiseration when a team consistenly loses.

On the flip side, though, when that same team finally, eventually, turns good, it's the best feeling in the world. As a Patriots fan, my fondest memory is obviously 2001; before that, the run up to the 1996 Super Bowl (even though they got crushed); before that, the run up to the 1986 Super Bowl (even though they got decimated). Frankly, in 2003 and 2004, it wasn't unenjoyable, per se, but the fun sort of goes out of it a little when you're SUPPOSED to win.

When--not if, but when--the Chiefs start to win, you'll feel like Tobey Maguire in "Spiderman 2" when he gives up his powers and walks down the street with a stupid smile on his face. :D
