$75 for a 10gal picked up at the distillery. Good for 2 stout batches and some wood aged batches after that as it will lose the whiskey flavor.

Do you have to do anything to the barrel from a sanitation standpoint before it's 2nd use? Revolution Brewing routinely makes their used barrels available for $50 up here. Sounds tempting but I'm not sure if I need to do anything to prep it for another use.

I was questioning the 2nd brew too but I would guess that after a steam/ hot water flush you could use it again, with limited results, then make staves, planters, or furniture from it

You don't do anything before first use but want to get the barrel fairly fresh from being emptied, within a few months.

Second use you have 3 options-

Since the beer will be in the barrel for a few months plan ahead and have another brew ready to go into it when you empty it.

Short term you can fill it with clean water as far as you can between uses so it doesn't dry out. 4-6 weeks I would say.

They make barrel cleaner you can use after the second use to clean it and kill any potential mold growth which is all you are looking to stop. I wouldn't do this before the second use because you will likely strip a lot of the booze out of it and its already weaker after the first use.

Second use I have aged stuff 1.5 to 2x longer than first use to get more flavor.

Also worth noting the smaller the barrel the less time you need. 55gal barrels are aged a year usually in a commercial brewery.

A 5gal barrel only needs about 6 weeks a 10gal barrel 2x as long.

The smaller the barrel the more surface area of wood vs liquid.

Good to know, thanks.

I know pre-2016 Bourbon County Barelywine was aged in barrels which previously held Bourbon County Stout, which gave it a different dimension than other BA barleywines, imo. I'd be interested trying something like, for the BA stout flavors and not necessary the bourbon heat. Maybe with a barleywine or quad.

InMem, I have news.

I had 4 Michelob Ultras yesterday.

Had some friends over for a football game. Had 6oz of quality bourbon, a margarita, one craft beer and then finished the afternoon off with the Michelob Ultra. Must say, for a light beer, it was very good. Friends bought a 12pk of bottles for $7.99.

My apologies from our previous interaction on this subject.

My SO wanted Bloody Mary's tomorrow so I bought a bottle of Kirkland (Costco American vodka and 2 kinds of pre-made mix. One was Zing Zag? brand and the other some artisan brand from Kroger. She spotted a deal on New York Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream so we decided on Pumpkin tumbleweeds after dinner... Vodka, creme de cocoa, and ice cream.

I must admit, they were tasty for a fu fu drink but I will be going after more of the 48oz cartons at $2 just to make these through the winter.

I chilled the vodka (ice cube in stir and out) and drank it. I thought it was right up there with many other "luxury" brands like Fuzzy's or 360 Degree but the bottle wasn't as cool.

suzzer99 12-09-2018 02:46 AM

My only good drink I ever invented:

https://previews.123rf.com/images/ve...ored-vodka.jpg

Stoli Sticki
Squirt of lime juice
Club Soda
Splash of POM original (blueberry is tolerable, cherry is not, be careful because the cherry cap and original cap are very similar)

https://products3.imgix.drizly.com/c...s&fm=jpeg&q=20

Unfortunately Stoli Stick is almost impossible to find now, but you can still order it online.

It's best with the club soda and POM chilled and the Stoli Sticki in the freezer. Pour the vodka first, then the lime, then the club soda. Should foam up. Stir. Then add the POM.

Also it tastes best out of a big glass mug, preferably this one:

So its top shelf booze and cheap beer today

Tito's isn't bad but there are many that equal or better it in the ( OK for a few dollars more) price range. Try Costco's American Vodka sometime. I will be attacking a bottle tomorrow while smoking meat for Christmas.

Pretty sure my favorite is Grey Goose... but Titos is damn good, consistently ranked among the best

cooper barrett 12-23-2018 03:14 PM

Been tagging Tito's for years. I buy the Costco French Vodka which IMHO is Grey Goose.

There are some other small batch Vodkas but they all fall into the Fuzzy's / 360 degree range. Fuzzy's bottles rock.

This is probably my favorite FB ad ever. I tried to buy some Stoli Sticki (which is not being made anymore and I think I'm slowly buying up the last of the world's stock) from this company then the next day realized I was paying like $50/bottle with EU->US tariffs, taxes and shipping. (I may have been a bit drunk when I ordered). I woke up, realized what I'd done, and emailed them the next day to cancel. They obliged.

Now they're paying FB lots of money to keep advertising to me. AI will replace us all. SOON!

Anyway I make a drink with this, squirt of lime, club soda and a splash of POM (the pomegranate drink that sponsor's ANW) on top. It's amazing.
