Watson has done nothing to make him a good QB. You don't know anything until year 3. There was a time when Sanchez and Cassel we called good QBs. We made Watson look bad. He threw a bunch of luck balls all over when the game was lost. Take out those stats and he sucked.

Watson had like what 75 yards passing 3 minutes into the 4st quarter? He was largely ineffective. He was inaccurate and plain bad. When the Chiefs went into prevent defense with a 19 point lead he just threw bombs...and our secondary isn't the best without Berry back there. I don't get the Watson love. I'm so glad the Chiefs passed on him.

We won't know until the young QBs try to take the next step.

Watson seems to have guys that can jump pretty well. But I haven't seen him throw a pro pass yet. Just lucky hail Mary's.

Meanwhile I've seen Mahomes make throws already that even our Probowl MVP QB can't make.

In fairness..I've seen our potential "MVP" read defenses to the tune of the 4th best start for a QB in NFL history.

Mahomes couldn't have fallen into a better learning environment...he's watching his mentor have a career season and what he's doing to achieve it. ...so much good going on right now.

If Mahomes inherits 75% of Smith's clinical awareness...he'll be a monster.

Pat Kerwin (sp?) made this point on NFL Radio today. Basically Watson threw up 4 of what he called 50/50 passes. Thanks to some luck and good receiver play Watson got all 4 through some pretty decent coverage. If those 50/50 balls live up to their billing, however, he ends up with 45% completion percentage, around 160 yards, and the Texans lose by 20+.

Watson reminds me of Derek Carr - misses shorter throws badly, misreads coverages badly, but has some good receivers who are able to win battles on deep balls. Doesn't make him bad, per se, but as Kerwin said today you can't win a championship that way.

Maybe he learns how to play better -- but I wouldn't trade Mahomes for Watson even after the first month of this season.

The Texans are running a spread offense based around the option and Watson's main role as a passer is to chuck up jump balls against single coverage down the field. And he's been really inaccurate even in this limited role, which was always the main concern about him. He's shown good intangibles, but I still don't know that he'll even become a good starting QB in this league.

I think what people are missing is that these “jump balls” were right where they needed to be - right on the receivers hands in most cases. The fact that the ball was placed so the receiver could use vertical space to make the catch and only his man could get the ball doesn’t make the throw meaningless. This is a legitimate NFL throw that great QBs have to be able to execute accurately, and he placed a several of them perfectly. Facing a defense so adept at forcing turnovers, throwing 5 TDs and no INTs means he was probably placing the ball very well down the field.

Smith, for now an MVP candidate, was less accurate down the field even in a game where he played well.

Nobody is saying Watson doesn’t have a long way to go yet before he’s arrived, but the pre-draft trash talk that he isn’t a legitimate NFL QB obviously is not looking too smart right now.

He threw up jump balls.
All he has to do is is throw it in the area so that his receiver can track it, get into position.
The is no real accuracy involved, and this just the stupidest take.

His guys won the jump balls.

That was it.
