REPORT: The #Bears heavily pursued Gabe Davis and made him a similar offer to the #Jaguars, but he did NOT want to sign with Chicago, per Fox.

I'm so glad we aren't chasing our dreams by chasing overpaid RBs any longer.

Pollard- Titans

Singletary- Giants

Edwards- Chargers

Barkley- Eagles

Swift- Bears

Jacobs- Packers

Gibson- Pats

Ekeler- Redskins

Jones- Vikings

Zack Moss- Bengals

It’s probably a reaction to a very weak RB draft class this year.

I don't think he'll get anyone to pay him for more than 2 seasons. The age and inconsistency will keep teams wary, IMO.

I dunno - market's hard to read right now. But he's proooooobably the best WR available? And there's still a bunch of money out there to be spent.

We're somewhat in agreement - I'd be shocked if someone gave him a 3rd year, and I'm thinking 2/34.

Gravedigger 03-12-2024 09:27 AM

Considering what you gave to MVS, you'd have to think that it'd be in that $15 range. I mean that's what you're doing with this FA move, replacing MVS so take his money and add a little gratuity on there and get the best guy you can think of. We should honestly just expect one WR out of this FA until the market settles down they we can pick up another off the heap, but it would be nice for Patrick to restructure and get two of these guys on that 2-3 year deal structure. Samuel and Ridley would be pretty baller.

I guess the release news was premature?

I have nothing to back it up with, but I have a sneaky suspicion we are in on Ridley.

I’ve heard arguments that he isn’t the best fit, but imo he’s the perfect fit. Just an absolute explosive route technician.

We haven’t cleared any room, and still no Sneed trade. But this just kind of feels like Thuney/Taylor out of no where splash.

ThyKingdomCome15 03-12-2024 09:29 AM

I'm not opposed to keeping Sneed. Letting him walk after the 3peat sounds worth it if we can't get a fair deal. I don't blame teams for not wanting to trade with us (Carlton Davis for a third is a joke, last year in the first round) but on the other hand we can make them regret it dearly on the field.

He'll get a 3rd and maybe even 4th year, but they'll be bullshit years to spread the signing bonus hit. The wrinkle here MAY be that he might not be a guy you trust to give much of a signing bonus, but you're gonna have to guarantee him money somehow to get him to sign and a signing bonus feels less dangerous than guaranteeing salary (that you'll never be able to get traded if he implodes).

So maybe something like a $16 million signing bonus spread over a 4 year deal, year 1 salary of $10 million, year 2 salary of $12 million. Cap hits of $14 and $16 million in the first two years; $8 million in dead money thereafter.

Yeah, I could have been clearer - I don't think anyone is giving him a REAL 3rd year.

I think the thing about my structure is if he's a REAL ****up, you could get out after 1.

It'd be a $26 million ****up but by cutting him after 2024 you'd accelerate $12 million in dead cap that offsets the $12 million in salary. So you don't clean the cap at all, but you clear the decks for 2026 and beyond if he's a real screwup.

That's doable. It's painful but not impossible. It's exactly the kind of structure that might create the sort of mutual dissatisfaction that ends up getting deals done.

RunKC 03-12-2024 09:35 AM

Better version of Singletary. Mixon is bigger and stronger and can break tackles way better.
