Terror in our Toyota! Sure looks like the Electronic Throttle Control got stuck, huh? Another case of "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION?" She was only able to control the car with the PRNDL - 3 teenage girls in the car and just pulling into a neighbor's driveway to pick-up during carpool! This could happen to you! The car was totalled, the home has sever damage, and a car inside the home was totaled out and another damaged. Toyota's response: "...no evidence of any sort of manufacturing or design defect..." You look at this video and decide for yourself!

I think we've found the answer.

Chazno 04-11-2013 10:11 AM

About the time I hit the house the first time and see the engine is still revving is when I put it in neutral and turn it off..... But that looked way more fun.

Frosty 04-11-2013 10:14 AM

So, the unintended acceleration is why she was going 2 mph before she got to the driveway? She also stopped several times, so I don't think the throttle was stuck.

Personally, I think it was a combination of inexperience, panic and a cell phone.

Hawk 04-11-2013 11:01 AM

Unintended acceleration that they just happened to catch on video? They always video a car arriving to pick up someone for carpool? Or they just happened to this time and by coincidence this is when the accelerator stuck? Smells like BS to me.

I know a rich couple that have video camera for their garage. I think it's intended for knowing when visitors or someone like the pizza delivery guy is coming to your door. That's my only explanation.

I never understood the issue. Does the car keep accelerating if you put it in neutral?

I would assume the engine races up to the rev limiter.

Exactly. Your motor will overpower your breaks every single time. If the motor was truly maxed, she'd have never brought the thing to a stop at all.

It was 3 teenage girls in a car that ****ed up and freaked out.

Correct, up until the point where the brakes get so hot they boil the brake fluid in the calipers/brake lines. That’s where “brake fade” comes from.

Unless you go with the mechanical connection in the parking brake.

Rain Man 04-13-2013 10:19 PM

I'm very curious about an event like that, from everyone's perspective.

First off, if you're the waitress serving the buffet that night, are you thinking, "I can't find a man, and even blow-up dolls find men."

If you're the busboy at the buffet, you're watching these men come in and arrange their dolls on the chairs, and you're probably alternately proud that you're not one of them and frightened of the possibility that you could be one of them.

If you're the organizer of that meeting, I don't know what you're thinking. You're probably just hoping that someone shows up, which is a halfway normal thing.

If you're one of the men at the meeting, my goodness. You're driving over there with your doll and you're thinking, "Is my doll pretty? Will people like her? Is anyone going to give me trouble getting her in from the car?" And you have to figure that the rich guys who bought the more lifelike dolls are feeling smug because the best looking whore golddigger dolls always end up with the richest guys, and it's pretty clear who spent the money. Meanwhile, if you're one of the guys with the 4-foot blowup dolls, are you a little embarrassed or do you love her all the same?

If you're one of the dolls, you're probably thinking, "Why couldn't I be one of those dolls they use in court with sexual assault victims?"

And if you're me, you're still wondering if you can get the Row 3 blonde doll in the house for a threesome with your wife, and maybe it's possible since she's, you know, a doll.
