When you're too lazy to go acquire a CFer so you're not pot-committed to putting your GG shortstop in the outfield, this is what happens.

This team is incredibly stupid.

Marcellus 02-26-2024 02:53 PM

Awesome. Crawford and Marp can sit around in the dugout and reminisce about when they used to be good players years ago.

2 gold glove infielders in the outfield says there is no need for outfield help. The fact that they both got hurt playing out of position means nothing. Plus you also have a young infielder who's defense was pretty ****ing far from gold glove caliber playing in the outfield. The obvious need with that defensive lineup was MORE middle infielders. If this doesn't work the obvious choice is to put Winn behind the dish and play Contreras in center.

Why is Gorman at 2b? Because they wouldn't trade Arenado. And won't they trade Arenado? Well because Gorman's a 2b, of course.

And why is Jordan Walker at 1b? Because they won't trade Goldschmidt. Why won't they trade Goldschmidt? Because Jordan Walker is a RFer.

Now why oh why is Brandon Crawford at SS? Well because they won't trade for a CFer. Because Tommy Edman is a CFer. And so Tommy Edman can't play SS so they need insurance in case Masyn Winn isn't ready.

Why is Matt Carpenter on the team? Because Oliver Marmol is a terrible manager who can't lead a veteran clubhouse. Why did we get rid of any bench production back in the Matheny era? Well because we had 'overcompetition' and Matheny couldn't figure out how to use a bench so we got rid of it.

This team is really REALLY good at creating problems for themselves and then coming up with truly awful solutions to them. I've never seen anything like it.

It's the single dumbest organization in professional sports. You could possibly argue the Panthers are close but they haven't done ENOUGH stupid things yet. Nor have the proven that their answers to these stupid things are to do even stupider things.

I just cannot wrap my head around how poorly this franchise is run. Its stunning.

And make salsa, lots and lots of salsa

Just FYI - Goldschmidt, Carpenter, Arenado and Crawford would've combined for 25 win shares in 2015. Sonny Gray came in 3rd in the CY voting. Lance Lynn was just entering his prime as a workhorse starting pitcher.

I think Mozeliak's phone just didn't get an update or something so he only has baseball reference going up to 2015 and just doesn't know what's happened in the decade or so since...

Shit.

Who's Mozeliak going to turn to for pitching depth now?

Jewish Rabbi 02-26-2024 09:33 PM

Manny Aybar still alive?

I remember him fondly. Don’t know why.

Goldy and Arenado. Then he gets to put walker at first and Gorman at 3b. That was the plan all along.
