Armchair psychologist here, but it seems to me that Frankie fears somewhere deep down that his inartful phrasing, were he to admit to it, would be used in the future as evidence that he isn't as versed in English vernacular and the finer elements of idiom and turns of phrase.
Like that scene in 2010 where the Russian cosmonaut says that a particular task would be "Like a piece of pie." Only, . . . when the 'Merkins tell him the phrase is "A piece of cake," Mr. Cosmonaut feared loss of honor and spent a bajillion posts to explain that "he can't help that inbred reeruns couldn't comprehend his dessert metaphor skills, but he knows he and his son were 'Thuper Therially' smart."
