You’re aware that Billy Bob is the OC in NE?

Hopkins isn’t going to NE.

Raiders Reporter Has Hilarious Reaction to Chiefs, DeAndre Hopkins Rumors

Quote:

In case you missed it, former Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is officially a free agent, and the Kansas City Chiefs are among the odds-on favorites to land him on the open market.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Chiefs have the second-best odds of signing Hopkins at +400, behind the AFC rival Buffalo Bills (+250). KC has also been named as a “best fit” for the playmaker on sites like ESPN and Bleacher Report, and Hopkins listed Patrick Mahomes II as one of five quarterbacks that he’d enjoy playing with in 2023.

All of this caused Las Vegas Raiders beat reporter Tashan Reed (The Athletic) to voice a hysterical admission on May 26. “If Hopkins goes to the Chiefs we might as well just fast forward through the 2023 season,” he joked — but is this statement that far off from the truth for Raider Nation?

I was thinking the Cleveland Browns might be a good place for DeAndre to sign, but they really don't have that much money right now either. They are 23rd in the NFL with $6,991,088 of cap space.

Deshaun Watson and Hopkins played together for the Texans from 2017 - 2019.

WRs - Would be a much-needed WR for the Browns.

I don't think the Browns qualify as "stable management" or a "good defense"

Agree but it seems like those statements might NOT mean anything. I think it will mainly be about who is going to give him best $$$ contract. Might be completely wrong, but we shall see.

Wilson8 05-29-2023 08:46 PM

Quote:

As one source explained it to PFT on Saturday morning, Hopkins currently expects to secure a significant contract on the open market.
Quote:

Thus, between the player’s expectations and unofficial representation, it might not be as simple and as seamless as it would seem for Hopkins to land on a new team.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ent-to-a-deal/

Not having approved NFLPA representation and high $$$ contract demands might slow this down.

Hopefully a new contract for DeAndre Hopkins gets delayed. That gives Chiefs some more time to watch Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, Rashee Rice, John Ross, and Richie James and have a better idea of what they can do.

Wilson8 05-29-2023 08:55 PM

Plus it seems like we may still need some time to get up and over the 1,000 post count.

Can we ask mods to merge the "Do we want DeHop?" thread with this one?

It would bring us up to almost 5,000 Posts.

Surly that would cause DeAndre Hopkins to sign here for some type of minimum NFL salary.

How good would we have been of Sammy Watkins had bulletproof Hammys?

Wilson8 05-29-2023 09:14 PM

On an unrelated but NFL/Chiefs note.

Philadelphia Eagles have a large number of DTs.

98 Jalen Carter DT
91 Fletcher Cox DT
90 Jordan Davis DT
61 Noah Elliss DT
72 Moro Ojomo DT
97 Kentavius Street DT
95 Marlon Tuipulotu DT
93 Milton Williams DT

If we asked nice, do you suppose they would give us one? Could we name the one that we want?

And Dee Ford knew where to line up.

And Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher had not been injured.

I could go on, but it is too painful.

Couch-Potato 05-29-2023 09:23 PM

Here's the deal...Smith & Taylor > OBJ & Wylie was a good move for us.

Hopkins > JuJu...would really cap off the offseason, maybe 1 additional cheap DL if we can find one.

Bump 05-29-2023 09:29 PM

Watch him end up with the Bears, he'll say he wants to play with Fields and having a receiver will turn that offense around! and apparently they have cap space

Sammy Watkins is still available in free agency.o:-)

ThyKingdomCome15 05-29-2023 09:33 PM

Hopkins will either chase the money or chase a ring. He's not going to get both. My guess is he'll chase the money with a team that has a decent QB. CLE does make a ton of sense, Jets as well. He won't get near the money if he goes to BUF or KC.

We might end up doing a trade for a DT. Really not much available in free agency.

Maybe we should agree to sign Mike Pennel like Chris Jones wanted, if Chris will agree to a new contract. A package deal for Pennel and Jones.

Fields will bust IMO.

Simply Red 05-29-2023 10:42 PM

I would like to say that Richie James will be our biggest surprise on offense this year. He will gain more yards than JuJu did (last year,) ..he will be the player on Offense that CP loves. On defense that player will be Drew Tranquill. I still am shocked they kept Willie Gay AND grabbed Tranquill. Our LB rotation is balls! def. pretty hornay rn just thinking about it.

I think Tranquill could also be a very underrated signing.

Tranquill seems like a guy who can tackle well, especially out of the backfield.

We may have the best LB corps in football.

Browns are going to gain some cap room in June -

Quote:

The Browns will soon pick up more cap space as well, having used both their post-June cut designations this offseason (John Johnson, Jadeveon Clowney). Cleveland will pick up $9.75MM from the Johnson release later this week. That stands to bump the Browns’ cap-room number past $16MM. The Watson contract obviously sits as a historically onerous part of the Browns’ payroll, but the team restructured the five-year, $230MM guaranteed deal earlier this offseason. While Watson’s cap hits reside at record-shattering numbers from 2024-26, his 2023 cap figure checks in at $19.1MM

I thought for sure we'd signed him to get Gay worked into a trade, but it didn't happen and now they are stacked in that room. That middle won't be open much and when it is, there's a good chance a hit is waiting. The month of May flew by & we will be talking about pre-season being 3 weeks away in no time.

Lions make a ton of sense to me...$23m in Cap Space, Goff was the #5 QB last year, Williams is suspended for 6 games after being injured last season.

Goff

Gibbs
Montgomery

Hopkins
Williams
St Brown
Jones Jr

La Porta

Give that team a year to gel and they could come out swinging!

Yeah all this Browns talk is just garbage - it's the Bills/Chiefs maybe the Eagles/Cowboys and that's it. He wants to win and get paid a decent salary. No chance he gambles on a "maybe" franchise like the Cardinals. Its win now.

From my point of view, this is how I'd look at it, especially if I had made the kind of money he has over his career. Question is, what does he see as a priority. If some desperate team just looking to put asses in the seats offers him some ludicrous contract, I think he'll take it.

Listen you can choose to believe this or not but my uncle works at Nintendo and he said that we should expect big news today.

My aunt is a real estate agent and said a black guy with dreads was looking at houses in Leawood late last night and none of the neighbors called the cops. If that doesn't tell you that Hopkins is a Chief by the time Petro gets on the air well then you must be stupid.

If he signs like a 4 year deal then yea, but if he's angling for another run at FA next year then no, he'll sign where he has the best chance to pump up his numbers for one last pay day.

it also is probably the other way as well, in that only those who think of themselves as contenders are interested in taking him on. He pretty much had problems with the last two organizations. Doubt too many teams with a young roster really want that risk and headache.

Think the Chiefs need him to sign for a few years to have a low enough cost this year to make it work.

It's hard to say because the contenders don't have money, so his goal may be to get a Buffalo KC bidding war just to get a decent number from the team he wants to play for.

ForeverChiefs58 05-30-2023 10:28 AM

Our defense has REALLY improved. It’s been a long long time since we had this good of LB group.

And it has been since Marty that I’ve seen this good of safety group.

We lost a number one WR and still won SB with a JuJu
Mahomes is magic, but let’s give him more talent the better.
Dhop would be a veteran for young group. And a reliable veteran mahomes can count on.
I don’t think he takes away from young guys, I think he makes them better.
Make it happen!

I feel like his options are kinda limited unless he really is open to playing for like Carolina. If he really wants to play on the big stage, have a chance at a ring etc etc, the Chiefs are significantly ahead of everyone else.
