Another throwback to Star Trek II was the way Intrepid's nacelle exploded. Very reminiscent of the way Reliant's nacelle got blasted in the Mutara Nebula battle. Both were the port nacelles as well.

Huh, nice catch. Right in front of my face and I didn't put two and two together. To Clay's thought - I thought I read some time back that the Enterprise-F was going to make an appearance at some point?

It did take me a while to get used to him, but I'm all in now.

Especially in the last episode of SNW, where he basically channeled Nimoy.

This! I cant believe you haven't seen this. It's old school Trek. One episode at a time. Old school look but updated. The crew eocks and the captain is one of the best ever.

BigRedChief 03-19-2023 07:25 AM

Since they fired Kurtzman, we are not getting anymore Trek until at least 2026? You guys here that?

But, maybe Picard3 is better since Kurtzman got fired?

Someone else can take control. Trek is a way way wider universe than the Star Wars universe, Thousands od stories to be told, Disney and Faverau have shown you how to make entertaining shows in 2023 with these 40 year old properties.

Shit. This whole cutting caffeine out is going to get me killed. I should've been able to figure that out.

Yeah, I like the crew, and I like the chemistry between all of them. Spock's character development has been a lot of fun so far. Pike often comes off as a strong echo of Shatner's Kirk a lot, but I can't say it bothers me at all.

Kurtzman hasn't been fired, at least as far as I know. I think he been less directly involved (he has another non-Trek show on Showtime) but his company is still in charge of Star Trek. Unfortunately.

When the Shrike comes about, the shot of its deflector array definitely makes it look like the drive section of a Galaxy class, I'll agree. The Scimitar-like appendages on that thing camouflage's it pretty well.

So if they pull the Ent-D saucer out of mothballs to dock with that thing, does that mean Janeway is going to show up on Voyager to save the day?

It was already confirmed Janeway isn't on the show. But the writer seemed to hint at someone else from Voyager.

I could be wrong about the Shrike, but man it just seems like there's a very natural spot for a saucer section to sliiiiide right in.

Man, it's a shame Spock had to go and jump through a black hole and depart the prime timeline.

Because if you're gonna haul Voyager out to help the heroes, why not go full Avengers Portals Scene and have someone with the 1701-A Command Codes haul that sweet baby outta the museum to help, too. ROFL

Oh WAIT. WAIT JUST A DAMN SECOND.

Scotty was trapped in a transporter buffer for 75 years and emerged in 2369. That would make him about...105-110 years old around the time of Picard S3. A man can dream can't he? ROFL

This is acceptable.

I still feel like they might try to get an old constitution class out, if only because the show is drenched in constant TOS/80s Trek references in sound and design.

FFS, the Titan is a "Constitution III-class."

https://trekmovie.com/2023/03/23/pic...-spinoff-idea/

Quote:

The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard has moved into its second half today with the release of episode 6 and you can already see the seeds of a potential spinoff series forming. And some of the actors on the show are talking more about this possibility, with the showrunner confirming what he would call this new show.

La Forge family is ready for spinoff
LeVar Burton made his first appearance on Star Trek: Picard in the episode that dropped today on Paramount+. To promote the show, the actor went on The View with his daughter Mica (Alandra La Forge). Host (and TNG veteran) Whoopi Goldberg brought up how fans are calling for a Picard spinoff series that would include legacy characters like Geordi La Forge along with new characters like Alandra and Sidney. The Burtons were supportive of the idea, saying they were “down” for a spinoff. Burton summarized:

What the writers have done is they have really set it up well. You have got the next generation of The Next Generation. The La Forge sisters, one’s an engineer, the other’s a pilot. We’ve got Jack Crusher, Seven of Nine. It makes a whole lot of sense.

My question - where the hell has this writing been? I ask that based on the crap that has been Discovery and Picard Season 1, if not kinda season 2. SNW's inaugural season was really good, but even it can't touch what's going on in P3.

This season has been fantastic, and it's been what we've all been waiting for, honestly. Why the freaking wait??

This season has been fantastic, and it's been what we've all been waiting for, honestly. Why the freaking wait??

I’m gonna again be a defender of SNW here. Some of those episodes are still better anything in P3 for me, but maybe that’s because I like my Trek more traditionally episodic.

It is interesting that they’ve done a complete 180 with P3 though (and it is my understanding that they filmed S3 immediately after S2 filming was complete). It’s like they realized in the middle of S2 production that what they were doing wasn’t working and that they had to make a significant change. They’ve all but ignored the first two seasons completely. Picard not having his body anymore is about the only thing they’ve referenced from those now (and it’s now become obvious why they did so).

Picard isn't an interesting enough character to carry an entire show, and Stewart is too old to breathe the same life into the character that he used to.

I agree with this. With the rest of the NG crew to prop him up (especially Worf and Data), it's infinitely better. Spiner showed more of an acting range in about a minute than McFadden has the entire season.

I read somewhere in the past year or so that Stewart himself (an executive producer) didn’t want the full original crew back to start the series (not wanting to retread old ground I’m guessing), so he likely came to a change of opinion on that as well as he saw the product of the first 2 seasons.

If they really want to wow me, after saving the Federation AGAIN, Worf, Geordi and Riker take up positions as the elder statesmen, rebuilding the UFP from the ground up and showing the kids the ropes.

You can have the crew of the Titan off doing cool shit and the B-roll is the old guys back in Sector 001 pulling strings. Almost like the prequels, with half the story on Coruscant (only not shitty and no Senate), half off on Naboo and Tatooine and Genosis, etc.

Only way that would work for me would be for the youngsters to be front and center almost all of the time with Worf/Geordi/Riker barely showing up in cameos every once in a while. Maybe they hang around more in the pilot but then they get the **** out and Seven becomes the wise old leader with maybe Worf as a semi-regular. But I'd rather see Worf on his own show doing bad ass ninja spy shit.

listopencil 03-25-2023 10:01 AM

By the way I've said this before on here but the very first episode that got me liking ST:TNG was when the UFP was taken over by worm-like creatures from far away and Picard and Riker had to show up to Starfleet HQ and kill a guy, blowing his skull open. That was fun and it got my attention. Same sort of thing happening right now and I wonder if it was on purpose.

Have to agree. SNW is the better show to my eye. Hoping they don't eff it up in S2. Has the chance to be the best series so far.

Trouble is, Michael Dorn is 70.

You can split up the show 50/50.

He's doing really, really good for 70. He'd do OK as the rear echelon mother****er then. I wouldn't watch it at 50/50. It would be shit. Let Dorn be the local flag officer that Seven serves under.

In S3E5 Worf tells Raffi... "I have to assume the denial came from someone above my handler".

Raffi>Worf>Ro>Bashir?

Bashir was heavily recruited into Section 31. Is an augment and would be highly suited to this line of work given his augmented abilities, is likely still the preeminent authority on all things medically related to changelings, and has benefited from the spy training he received from his mentor... Garak.
