She's been the topline star of the Netflix series "Umbrella Academy" for the past few years, which is #1 streamed TV series on Netflix with 3.01 billion minutes of streamed time.

If this is what makes he/she happy, I support it 100%.

But admittedly, I can’t relate to it or understand it at all.

I've never thought that she was a good actress by any metric.

She plays every role exactly the same: Monotone and completely devoid of emotion, regardless of what's going on around her.

I have no idea how she continues to score leading roles.

I thought she was alright in Inception, but yeah, I agree with this.

And as to how she scores leading roles - yeah you do.

I know this has to have been mentioned, since this thread is decades old. The first I ever heard of Ellen Page was in 2005 I rented 'Hard Candy' at Blockbuster. Someone or some place I heard it was good. It was good alright, good and freaky. I don't think I could watch again. Kind of reminded me of the old movie from the 70's with Diane Keaton, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, that movie is so freaky they don't ever show it anywhere. Richard Gere was the weirdo in that film, if you can believe that.

Here's a preview of Hard Candy

The whole transgender thing is super weird and almost certainly some sort of mental illness.

However, if it makes people that transition happy then I support it. I just think it's kind of dumb how celebrated it is.

tyecopeland 12-01-2020 02:53 PM

I'll remember her fondly for juno.

Wonder if in 6 years he'll transition to being a straight woman again?

So Vanya was gay in the show. Does she come out as trans in season 3? I mean there has to be outrage that dudes are taking female roles in shows.

If the writers knew that she was going to come out as transgender, it's more than likely included in Season 3's story arc created for this season.

If not, it might be a last minute addition, which would possibly muck up the narrative by forcing her personal story into the overall story arc.

Saw this movie as well. It was good, and one time was enough. Reminds me a lot of The Woodsman with Kevin Bacon. Decent movie, but seeing it once was enough.

Rehearsed outrage from a person so miserable with her own station in life— she likely received thousands of likes from her followers, and watched her own performance repeatedly.

I’ll guess that within...oh ten years or so she’ll down a few handfuls of Percocet with a Chardonnay chaser.

What, if anything, do they do with her name on the credits on all the work she did before she decided her name wasn’t Ellen?
Would they go back and change them? Seems complicated, since credits are more than just a standard type font?

It's a fairly simple and quick process, other than the render time, and Netflix has already re-rendered all of the episodes of Umbrella Academy to reflect the new name. They've also announced that he will continue to be a cast member of the show.

As for the non-Netflix titles, I doubt there's a budget available on those Indie films to make those kind of changes and I'm not sure it makes much sense to change the name on older movies like X Men 3, Inception, et al.

It would probably be confusing to the viewer as well, especially first time viewers.

Netflix doesn't comment on their streams, unless they're astronomical.

But this year, companies like Nielsen and Parrot Analytics have recently begun tracking usage so the numbers are far more accurate than last year at this time.

Thanks. I asked because the whole dead naming thing seems like a big issue in that community. I wondered if Elliot would get riled up knowing the dead name was played on a screen all the time.

For all us old farts here are some pointers in dealing with trans folk:

In light of Elliot Page coming out, we're going to go over some of the most basic trans/enby etiquette! Here are some of my top 15:
1. Don't use their birth name, not ever. You forget that shit ever existed
2. "You'll always be [dead name] to me" is not the compliment you think it is 🙃
3. "She is now a he" is a phrase y'all should drop from your trans phrase arsenal, effective immediately
4. Correct people if they use the wrong pronouns
5. Don't ask them what surgeries they've had or plan on having
6. "OMG I never would have known you were trans--" is also not the compliment you think it is
7. If you slip up on name/pronouns, just correct yourself and move on. Please, dear god, don't make it a big deal
8. Make an effort on pronouns
9. "He, she, it, whatever" is not the funny comment you think it is (@ my dad)
10. You don't get a special prize for using the right name and pronouns, 'tis a basic respect 🙂 Don't act like you're doing them a favor
11. Ask what you can do to support them!!!!
12. Everyone transitions in their own way and at their own pace. Y'all don't get to police that
13. Don't ask them if their label on their sexuality has changed. That's for them to know and y'all to find out
14. Please just be respectful
15. In the case of Elliot Page, it's safe to refer to roles he's played by the pronouns of the character being played (ex. he played a character named Juno, and Juno used she/her pronouns), but otherwise y'all should be using his actual pronouns, full stop.

The more you know...

Much simpler for me:

1. Disregard these people entirely and pay no attention to them.

Gravedigger 12-01-2020 11:06 PM

Yeah I'm on the side of do what you want but accept the consequences of judgement, questions and people not caring. Live your life, but don't give people undue attention for it. I would act the same way if you told me you had eggs and bacon for breakfast, "Cool.... do you want a cookie?" I don't see bravery, or courage, I see someone who made a change in their lives, we make them every day in this world. Expecting someone to not ask certain questions or to control what they say to you afterwards is a little self righteous and arrogant. If you don't like the questions then don't make it widespread knowledge.

Miss me with that bullshit.

I will make it real simple. Look in your underwear. See a set of balls? Youre a male. Dont see a set of balls? Got a set of ovaries and bleed monthly for a week? Female.

Gender dysphoria is a horrific mental disorder to be stricken with, but dont expect me to refer to a female as a man, no matter what name she decides to go by.

Why people are assisted in mutilating themselves due to symptoms of a mental disorder is quite beyond me.

I agree. I had an employee tell me they were non-binary (I had no idea what that even meant) and preferred a plural pronoun (they/them) and did not want to be referred to as a she. I told them "you do you girl".

Wow, so brave. Elliot Page is truly an inspiration. I will remember this moment for all of 5 seconds and then move on with my life.

One of my children’s teachers this year is Binary. They are a fantastic teacher with an even better reputation and my child adores Them.

I try my best to use the correct pronoun but my wife and kids would occasionally catch me earlier this year when I refer to Them as “she”, which I didn’t say disrespectfully by any stretch of the imagination but it definitely takes some time to adjust.

You rock, BTW.

"They" should not be an allowed pronoun. Do you have to say things like "They isn't going to be going on the field trip", or "They doesn't assign homework on Friday"? That's a terrible way to teach grammar to children.

We should all go with "Zhe". It works universally and then there's no implied gender or lack thereof.

"What's Rain Man doing?" "Zhe's creating a poll."
"Is Halle Berry naked in that movie?" "Yes, zhe is and I like it."
"Is Elliott Page dating Michael Cera?" "No, zhe isn't. Zhe doesn't swing that way."

It makes all the sense in the world for society to switch to one gender-irrelevant pronoun.

Agreed. Altering the very construct of the English language by saying plurals don't mean what they mean anymore is a non-starter. Especially when we are talking about .5% of the population.

The children refer to the teacher with the letter T and Their name. So for example, if Their name is Barbara, the kids refer to Them as T.B. or Teacher Barb. The kids don't use those pronouns in the same way the adults use them.

It's easier for me to refer to Them as "T.B." rather than They or Them, mainly so I don't make a mistake and sound disrespectful because my brain automatically thinks then says She or Her.

FWIW, Binary means that the person doesn't identify as a Male or Female, hence They, Them, et al.

I, for one, enjoy how you state and recognize that it is a "horrific" mental disorder then go on to say... **** the people who have it, I'm gonna refer to them in manners that will cause someone with a mental disorder further anguish.

No one should expect you to show an ounce of empathy... got it.

Why do you keep capitalizing pronouns? Do you worship these people or are you just trying too hard?
