But now the NFL is gonna move to saturdays and realize "holy shit we're crushing on Saturdays" and they ain't giving that up.

The NFL has no reason to **** up it's free minor league system...

I wouldn't be surprised to see other conferences that do try to play have a bunch of guys opt out and just prep for the draft.

Certain things just aren't made for a pandemic and amateur sports (lol) seems to be one.

When they realize the ratings they'd do if they switched from Thursday night to Sat evening/night they will.

I am sure there are/will be many lawyers reviewing the conference Grant of Rights/affiliation obligations in regards to a conference deciding not to continue with football for a year as the likes of USC, Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan, etc. aren't going to go without football for potentially 19 months.

They'll jump to another conference if they have to.

It doesn't work that way...it be basically be a massive loss to try to move conferences because the minute this is done you'd basically get butt****ed by the conference you have to go back to.

And who says any school would want to go back to the Big 10 or Pac 12, which will both be in smoldering ruins if they aren't able to play football for 19+ months?

They won't be able to do that consistently, whenever CFB resumes, because of anti-trust legislation that's in place currently.

Translation... you can't answer the question.

Again why hasn't this heart issue based on "limited studies and anecdotal evidence" raised red flags by the NFL? MLB? NBA? NHL? International soccer leagues? Boxers? MMA fighters?

We are supposed to believe that this heart condition only applies to college football athletes?

Hilarious.

A pitcher for the Red Sox has the heart issue after having COVID-19.

And the answer is simple: Colleges don't want to be held liable.

You can't do that...

Exactly.

And the networks would be under no obligation to air Saturday NFL games over college football games.

But they're gonna have students on campus?

You don't think they would rather have an NFL game though?

And yet they face INFINITELY more exposure by having college students on campus.

The liability argument is dodgy as hell. If they open at all, and allow these very same athletes on campus (with students that travel to/from their homes with regularity), how are they avoiding liability if those athletes get sick in a classroom instead of a lockerroom?

These athletes are still coming on campus. They're still being monitored by the athletic departments and screened/tested. They just aren't practicing or playing anymore. I fail to see precisely how that significantly diminishes their liability unless many of these athletes simply leave campus (and some absolutely will).

Maybe that's their plan.

In a season without college football? Yes.

In a season with college football? No.

Mecca 08-11-2020 02:17 PM

Take something else into consideration, there are at least 3 states in the PAC-12 that wouldn't have let games happen anyway, I dunno how many there are in the Big 10 in that regard.
